If you've browsed through the comments part of any news post, review, etc., odds are you might notice a post or two linking to a (possibly shady) web site. Lately, things have been getting out of hand, to the point where practically every post is littered with some sort of spam message. (The easiest way to spot them is to see if they're unrelated to the topic at hand; unusually-long posts with lots of spaces, bad English and/or links to sites that end in .hk are other examples.) Here's an example:
http://www.mania.com/manga-uk-acquir...le_125700.html (Scroll down to the fourth comment.) Mods, it's time to take action against this rampant spam problem. Find and delete the spam messages and terminate the accounts associated with them. |

I would agree with you, but I fear the gates overall are pretty much wide open at this time.

Behead a few and leave them on a spike by the gates.
It has worked in the past. |

Please kill this account: http://www.mania.com/roupo/comments.html
This account has been spamming since the 7th of OCT across multiple account comments sections, as well as, various articles. This spamming problem is due, in no small part, to a nonexistent spam fillter system and the general complacent attitude that mods and admins have towards spam...If only a few complain, they are just maked as complainers and disregarded. If many complain...we are working on the problem and are actively seeking a solution...yet nothing gets fixed. The tools needed to resolve this problem are many, all that is needed is initiative...as long as that initiative doesnt affect the bottom line. Its a tough line that I speak but it needs to be said all the same. |

Just give them their own section to play in and obliterate any who cross the line and obliterate with extreme prejudice any posting in comments to articles. Chris B's people seem up to that task, maybe you could recruit your own 00 team to take out spammers.

We now have a fix in place with a more perm solution coming in November.
Let us know if any spam gets through to the comment side at Mania's homepage, fellow Maniacs. |

I think I posted that before the fix was in place...This went into effect yesterday, Beten.
But I'll go through there and delete the bastards one at a time.. |
