Default Back from BCW 9

Well, you'll get a full write-up later, but I am here to tell you that Bond Collector's Weekend #9 was a fabulous time.

We saw Palmyra.

I kid you not. Palmyra. Saw it? We hung out. The house is virtually identical; unchanged from the time it was used in Thunderball in 1965. The owner has been letting it fall to ruin, but other than the fact that it is in poor condition, it's the same. There's the pool, there's the shark pool, there's where Fiona was target shooting, there's where Domino dried her hair.

Unbelieveable.

The gardener harvested coconuts from a tree and we all drank fresh Palmyra coconut milk.

That was the best part, but there's plenty more.

Check out Omnibilia for a fab photo gallery of our event.

Highlights included:
  • A meet & greet on Friday night
  • In Nassau, touring amazing sites such as...
  • Palmyra
  • The "Madagascar" set from Casino Royale
  • Sean Connery's Bahamanian home (Out of Bounds)
  • Sean Connery's hotel suite (before he bought the home); from there we could see the beach/pier where Fatima Blush got Bond all wet in NSNA; unfortunately, the buildings were destroyed by hurricane some time back
  • the "foot chase" scene from Casino Royale
  • Dimitrios's home (Albany House) from Casino Royale
  • the Nassau streets where Junkanoo was held in TB, and where Nigel Small-Fawcett "took cover" in NSNA
  • "Love beach," where Vargas "got the point" in TB
  • Paradise Island very briefly
  • the dive school (Stuart Cove's) used to help film scenes in many Bond films
  • Saturday was formal night on the ship; Bond fans do formal SO well
  • Bond costume party Sunday
  • Roulette at the shipboard casino ("Casino Royale")
  • Duty free vodkas at the shipboard store (Stoli for $10!)

I am wondering just how much trouble I would get into if I took my partner to the Bahamas on holiday..... and only after we arrived I casually told her there was a Bond convention on. Hmmmmm.........

There were quite a few couples on the cruise where the husband was a hardcore Bond collector and the wife less of a fan. There's so much to do on a cruise. Jim Arnold's wife and daughter went to the Atlantis Casino on Paradise Island while Jim & his son did tour stuff, and they met up later.
