So it's a little late now, but I have to post about how awesome I thought the premiere was. It definitely started out on a shocking note. I couldn't believe that Palmer got shot, and I REALLY couldn't believe it Michelle and Tony got blown up.
Jack is definitely back in action. ![]()

You beat me to it, Strider. I was just about to post on it.
They were NOT kidding around when they said the first 10 minutes will throw you off your seat and make you feel used. Okay, I made up the "feeling used" comment but that's certainly how it felt. What a freaking rollercoaster beginning. I've stayed Spoilerfree for this show's year and I could not believe what happened. Enough so to get onto MSN, find Adam and relay my shock at the whole intro. Spoilerssssss Palmer dying was enough of a shock....A huge one. I knew it may happen sooner or later to advance some story but I wasn't expecting it so soon and certainly not as a catalism to starting off the day in the fashion that the writers have shown so far. But anger set in soon afterwards. Why? I freaking loved the Michelle-Tony storyline. I thought they should have been the characters that finally ride off into the sunset happy and surprise surpise....ALIVE. When she died, anger was the number #1 emotion. That all said, this show's beginning was such a wonderful rollercoaster ride down that it is hard to find a fault at all. Superb writing so far too. I love how their not dwelling on anything. Noticed how we already resolved the Airport situation by the end of the 4 hour event? LOL Freaking awesome. Things moving much much faster then it has in the past. It's almost as if the writers are in top form now, learning from their mistakes of the past. Characters have grown so freaking much too. Chloe, Edgar, and Buchanan are very much more improved and established characters now. Buchanan is starting to look like Mason was season 2 style. Going from the anal retentive butthead from previous year to one of the fan favs. The writers are also showed great fatherly emotions from Jack transferring to Kevin(that's his name, right?). The hug was great at the end of the Airport scenes..."I have to see this through to the end." This show freaking ........ROCKS. ![]() |

I'm still not fully recovered from the shock of seeing Palmer shot. The only way you're ever truly gone from 24 is if you're dead. So Tony isn't gone yet...I don't know if he'll recover, but he's not quite dead. He did recover from being shot in the neck once.
I am fully expecting Chloe and Edgar to be an item after this season is over. He's looking too jealous of the new guy. And who let a hobbit into CTU? I'm interested to see where they go with his character. Can't wait until Monday, and very glad to be back on a working chat board! Last edited by Penfold : 01-20-2006 at 06:07 AM. |

Ohhhh my, am I glad to be back on the boards, just in time to discuss the new season of 24. The premiere was awesome, and now Neglet Jr. is watching along with me. He wants to catch up on the old seasons, so I have that revisiting to look forward to as well.
Regarding the first four hours (SPOILER talk): About thirty seconds before Palmer was shot, I was thinking: I know they're going to kill him. I just didn't expect it right that second! Nice misdirect on the target of the terrorists, making us think it was going to be directly on the summit, but instead it's in the airport. And great work at the end of hour four to wrap up that attack, but give clues to something bigger. I'm going to love watching Jean Smart as Martha Logan. Great character, just bit***y and crazy enough to undermine her believability. And nice to see the mole in the president's office instead of CTU. This is my favorite show on TV. And we have 20 more hours to go, uninterrupted by off-weeks! What a great way to dispel the doldrums of winter! edit: who turned on the censor? I can't say bitchy? edit: and the old workaround doesn't work!! This is an advanced new program!!!!Last edited by neglet : 01-20-2006 at 07:07 AM. |

I SO thought Chloe and Edgar would hook up, but instead,
she had to give in to that weak-minded chump over a few drinks. But it should heat things up considerably, and 'Donkey Kong' Edgar will get his woman back. Is it just me? Or is Chloe definitely getting a taste for firearms? She went ballistic on that assassin coming up behind her, with Jack shouting "Chloe! Stop shooting now!", and seeing Chloe stop herself not realizing what she just did. Classic Chloe move. Loved it. The first 4 eps practically drained me. I was ready to go on vacation after the last one just to restore my nerves. Television just does not get any better than this. Good to see Jack BACK! |

I loved the first four shows -- it felt like a terrific action-suspense movie -- but I felt that the show didn't give enough "connections" to keep the audience watching. There's the ominous cannisters (which we don't find out until the previews for the next ep that they're nerve gas)/Forever Knight and there's the travails of the wacky First Lady.
I felt we needed more of a direction as to what's going on. Since the 1st 4 eps formed such a solid arc, I'm not even sure I'll continue with the show via broadcast or simply wait for DVD to watch the rest of the season. Mixed feelings... |

PALMER....MICHELLE....can't believe they're gone. I just realized, this is the first time a core main character that was "good" (meaning, non-villainous) has been killed off since Teri (or Mason, but his death didn't have as dramatic an effect on me - and I didn't count Chapelle b/c Chappelle was more a recurring character than a main character). And they killed TWO in the same episode....yeesh. Guess they were making up for lost time.
But you know what I think? I think that in the final season, whenever that may be, Jack's gotta die. I know it's really strange, but I don't think I'd be satisfied with any other ending - it's like no ending could be climactic enough except to have Jack finally die in the line of duty. And I don't know why, but if any character is to survive, I'd want Chloe to. I really don't have any reasons, I just want to see her survive at the end of the series. |
