I posed this ranking list a while back but since we now can have new registrations and we have new ppl in our ranks, here it goes again...especially since I know I'm not the only horror genre fan here yet this forum never gets any attn.
Rank these movies in terms of your favorite: m going to supply a list of Horror Movies, rank them and we'll see a trend on which movies go where.. -Jaws -Nightmare on Elm Street -Day of the Dead -Hellraiser -The Thing -Halloween -Friday the 13th -Dawn of the Dead(old version) -Alien -Shining -Night of the Living Dead(oldest version) -Carrie -Silence of the Lambs -Shaun of the Dead Predator was on the last list but the general consensus is that it's one of the best action movies...not horror. FIGHT THE POWER! Damn you and your rules. Fine. My favs are as follows:
1. The Evil Dead (HAHA! Sorry, I know it's not on the list, but it is far and away my favorite horror movie, sorry for messing up your system. Please don't hurt me!) 2. Halloween - Damn close second to Evil Dead as my fav. Terrifying, great music, it's the film almost every slasher flick after it owes its existence to, and on top of that, no gore!! 3. Dawn of the Dead (old version) - Great zombie flick and social satire. 4. Hellraiser - Fantastic, gruesome horror. This is the kind of horror that really gets under your skin (no pun intended....or is it...?). 5. Nightmare on Elm Street - Freddy is just so much fun. Plus thinking that your dreams can kill you? Coffee I.V. please! 6. The Thing - Now, which Thing are we talking here? The original or the John Carpenter version? The original scared the crap outta me when I was little, and I really love the Carpenter version for its gruesome special effects. 7. Alien - Great haunted-house-in-space movie. The alien in the chest is pretty much like demonic possession, no? 8. Friday the 13th - Killer death scenes. 9. The Shining - Some of those images just stay with you... 10. Jaws - Never trust an animal with that big of a smile... 11. Night of the Living Dead - The grainy black-and-white film just makes it creepier. 12. Carrie - God, when will people learn, don't pick on the girl with telekinetic powers! 13. Silence of the Lambs - Very creepy, but I honestly don't count this as a horror movie, more of a psychological thriller. 14. Shaun of the Dead - I loooove this movie, probably the best zombie movie since the original Dawn of the Dead, I just put it down here since it's more of a comedy, and a damn funny one at that (I love British humor). Also has the best disemboweling scene I've ever seen! 15. Day of the Dead - Good, but not up to par with the other two. Good list, however, I think you could add a few, like The Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Amityville Horror, The Exorcist, and The Omen. ![]()

At best, he's shady and ambiguous. At worst, he's just creepy.

Oh man, yeah, this needs like 15 more movies added so it can be a bigger P.I.T.A.
1 - Alien - I love the calustrophobic feeling and that permeating sense of dread that carried throughout the movie. This film proved to me that you can do real horror in a sci-fi setting. 2 - Night of the Living Dead - Yeah, Dawn is arguably the better zombie film but I just love films that get that closed-in sense. It's overdone today, but this is THE perfect horror setting. 3 - Nightmare on Elm Street - This is worse than closed in. Unfortunately, the dream idea made this more fantasy than horror for me, but still a lot of fun to watch. 4 - Shining - Those two girls still give me the creeps, plus, the fact they are isolated in a wide open area. Brr, I have agoraphobia... 5 - Dawn of the Dead - Love the gore, the story, it just didn't hit my nerves the way the other ones did. 6 - Day of the Dead - The hardest one to really get into. Still better than most movies made these days. 7 - Hellraiser - Again, this seems more dark fantasy than horror. 8 - The Thing - I only saw John Carpenter's, but it was awesome. 9 - Carrie - Wonderful film. Although, in today's world where I've been reading X-Men for 15 years, this seems more like a mutant tale gone wrong. 10 - Jaws - Not scary, but fun to watch. 11 - Silence of the Lambs - Yeah, in the same category as Se7en to me. Definatley the best in that trilogy, though. 12 -Shaun of the Dead - comedy, not horror. Well, maybe the last twenty minutes. Some of the best stuff in years, though. 13 - Halloween - This one beats out Friday the 13th only because it was the one that started it all. I'm not too crazy on the whole slasher flick genre. 14 - Friday the 13th - Overrated, overdone, played out. If they stopped at this one I might have a higher opinion. After then, though... I agree that Evil Dead, The Exorcist, and The Omen should have been on here. I also would have recommended An American Werewolf in London and Poltergeist.

Handle with extreme caution.
|
1) Silence of the Lambs- for the obivous reason
2) 'Night', 'Dawn', & 'Day'- were all equally good, I just can't pick :dunno: 3) The Exorcist- I didn't sleep in my bed for weeks after LOL 4) Nightmare on Elm ST.- Was a hilarious, horror roller coaster ride! 5) Alien- Why we shouldn't go sticking our noses in gallaxies where it doesn't belong. 6) Hellraiser- Pinhead... gotta love Pinhead 7)Halloween 8)Carrie- Why you should never pick on the fat, ugly, unpopular chick. 9) Friday the 13th- The death (& the sex) scenes. |

-The Thing (Carpenter version) - Those effects really impressed me
-Night of the Living Dead(oldest version) - minimal, creepy, hopeless -Silence of the Lambs - Loved it -Shining - cold, scary, isolated -Halloween - Michael will always be my favorite. -Alien - I like the idea of "a used future" -Jaws - Played on my fear of water -Hellraiser - truly a new twist on horror -Carrie - one of the few supernatural films I liked -Day of the Dead - much better "end of the world" feel than "LOTD" -Dawn of the Dead(old version) - Fun with zombies -Shaun of the Dead - More fun with zombies -Friday the 13th - If it hadn't spawned Jason, I'd be sick of it -Nightmare on Elm Street - I really got sick of Freddy
