I'm still working on last years resolutions:

1. Get tittie-slapped by every girl I know.

2. Get a lesbian stalker.

And yes, there's nothing sublime about either - I'm all about the ridiculous peeps.

Now 80 hours and counting. Maybe now I would only kill half of you for a cigarette !

I have found how to cope though. As I did most of my smoking at home in the evenings and I didn't smoke in the house, I went out in the garden to do it, whenever the cravings get too much I just go to bed !

Seriously works because 1) it is like some mental switch that when I am in bed smoking is completely off the agenda so the cravings largely stop and 2) it is far too much hassle to get out of bed, get dressed, go back downstairs and out into the cold when I am all warm in bed watching TV.

The bonus side effect is that I am getting loads of proper sleep too so am waking up feeling full of energy.

And bonus effect number two, giving up has made beer taste better..... as if I ever thought that was possible.

I usually don't make New Year's resolutions, as I consider Jan 1 to be a fairly arbitrary date, but it just so happens that I have decided to lose 28 pounds by March 31. I weighed in at 191.4lbs on Jan 2. The goal is 163lbs on March 31.

I'm 5'11. I just checked out a BMI calculator and 163 would put me right in the middle of the "normal weight" category. Not that I care much for the BMI, but 163 pounds is simply my "feel good" weight, the weight at which I feel the most healthy.

My resolution is to get a job in the day time, and to get back into shape. I want my abs back. Night shift has made me get so out of shape.

BMI doesn't mean anything. I would rather you pay attention to what your body looks like than what the scale says. And don't diet. Just cut 100 calories a day. It may not drop the weight as fast as you'd like, but it's the safe way, and it's not hard to do forever.

Bah. Don't drop 100 cals. If you're eating the wrong things or eating more than 100 cals too many, it won't matter. Change what you eat. Spend the money to develop a diet with a nutritionist and stick to it. Give yourself one cheat meal a week. Get 20 minutes of cardio 3 times per week. Lift weights 4 days a week (cardio should be after lifting). You will drop that 28 pounds in 3 months. No problems. I dropped 40 pounds in 8 months from Oct. 2005 to June 2006 with a near 2 month period where I couldn't drop a pound because I wasn't eating enough. I put 25 back on but I feel better at 250 this time than I did on the way down. My own goal is to lose 25 pounds by March 31 and 25 more by the end of June. I'm going to do it right this time.

Right. Normal people can't do that, or rather, they won't. Start with dropping 100 calories a day, unless you are grossly overeating, or just eating pure shit. Make your nutritional habits a gradual lifestyle change that you can live with. Kicking your own ass to lose a set amount of pounds in a set amount of time is just setting yourself up for failure. And let's say you don't fail. How long do you think it'll take to go right back to where you started? I would bet within the year, you will be talking about making the same New Year's resolution for 2008.
