I was a fan of the first, and hated the second (it just looked and felt cheap to me), so having James Wong and Glen Morgan return for this one seemed to be a good sign.
And they follow that up. It would've been nice if the film could've been populated by characters other than the usual high-school stereotypes (the two bimbos are, like, totally annoying), but then, to be fair, the first movie wasn't exactly brimming with great characterization. And people aren't going to see this movie for its psychological depth. And the set-pieces deliver. The rollercoaster opening isn't quite as good as it could've been (the set-up is excellent, but the deaths happen quickly and almost bloodlessly), but the ensuing carnage is great. The 'accidental' deaths have that "ouch!!" factor (my fave was the nail gun), and I appreciated - for once- not having everything given away by the trailer. Particularly the train-based ending. I'd also be interested to find out if that was Tony Todd's voice I heard both at the fairground at the beginning and on the train at the end. Sounded like him. Anyway, if you enjoyed either or both of the first two, this one's definitely worth a look. Especially given that most horror movies nowadays are tame, PG-13 affairs. |

Saw it. The deaths were pretty good at keeping me guessing but basically this movie had about the same amount of plot as a porno. It was all about getting to the next death. Nothing new was added to the mythos and the characters were cookie-cutter to the core. Honestly, wait for this one to hit cable.
Although seeing two sets of naked boobies in the same seen for what seemed like a gratuitous amount of time was very nice. |
