My God, I forgot....
David Lynch! ![]() I know many or most of you cannot stand him or his movies, but I don't care. I love him, I love his creative mind, I have followed his career as an ARTIST ever since Eraserhead latched onto my memory like an alien face hugger. Even when he flops (Dune), it's more interesting than 90% of what's out there. I have him on cd reading his book on meditation and creativity. Simple, almost deceptively simple. Yet very spiritual and centered. Not what you would expect. |

At best, he's shady and ambiguous. At worst, he's just creepy.

I should probably have added Jean Luc Besson and Frank Darabont. Neither of them is considered to be great, but they have made some great movies!

I'd have to add Robert Altman to the list, somewhere.

Luc Besson is one of the coolest directors, i should have thought of him. The Fifth Element and Leon: The Professional are the coolest movies. Even when he does not direct and writes (The Transporter, Unleashed) the stories are still intriguing and opens the mind. I would like him to go back and direct one of his previous styles of movies.
Lynch is not on my top ten list, but he is down with the rest of ones i could not decide on. Great stuff, and you are right Bill, some of his movies are weird and you are wondering what the hell is going on here, but nonetheless, awesome director with a different perspective on storytelling.

After reading my last post I felt a little dirty...there are plenty of directors I would put ahead of Michael Bay. :Smirk: Lynch, Pollack, Altman, Verhoven, Besson, Coppola, Clooney, Sodherberg, and plenty more. I just think the guy gets a bad rep, that's all. Fan-boys love to bash him. If you ask your average dude what his favorite action movies are, MB's will be on their list.

I'm a little tired of the Anti-Bay bandwagon, too. Played out.
He does need to grow as a director of substance, but he's definitely got the chops, and at their gut level, his movies are entertaining. I'd still consider them guilty pleasures, but hey.... :OhWell: |
