Default Tintin

Sounds pretty awesome already...

Spielberg and Jackson to use "Gollum techniques" on new CGI Tintin trilogy

And from IMDB...

Quote:
"Gollum" Technology To Be Used for Tintin Movies

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson intend to use performance-capture technology -- used to create the character of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies -- to turn Georges Remi's comic-book drawings in his Adventures of Tintin series into three features that will be shot back-to-back beginning next year, Daily Variety reported today (Tuesday). The trade publication said that the three films -- one will be directed by Spielberg, another by Jackson; there is no decision on who will direct the third -- will likely be released through DreamWorks Animation. It quoted Spielberg as saying that the drawings by Remi, who used the name Hergé, will have the look of a live-action film, "and yet Peter and I felt that shooting them in a traditional live-action format would simply not honor the distinctive look of the characters and world that Hergé created." Jackson said that the characters will "look photorealistic ... They look exactly like real people -- but real Hergé people."

A trilogy dedicated to Tintin......aren't they jumping a little ahead of themselves with this? Yes i know Speilberg and Jackson are attached to it so it might be good, i am not saying it will not be, but you see this more and more latley with films. The films have not even been written yet and they already plan ahead, they expect succes with these two directors attached.

I will have to wait and see on this one. Interesting news, though.

I hope they do Tintin and Snowy justice!

Moreso, I hope this country (and this generation) finds it in themselves to embrace the charm and intelligence and wit of the Tintin stories. Speilberg already has said that Tintin is one of his inspirations for Indiana Jones, (the adventuresome spirit, not the excessive violence).

Tintin has a LONG history in the world in other countries yet remains obscure in the USA. 23 Books, 50 languages, 200 million copies, beautiful art, globe-hopping (and moon hopping, too!) adventures and intrigue.....I have the books and entire (very well-made and faithful to the stories) animated tv series from the 90's on DVD, had to order them from Canada!

Tintin stuff, btw, is off-the-hook in collectibility, fetching huge amounts of money. I would love some of them, if they weren't so expensive, but I did manage to snag a metal lunch box from Singapore on ebay!

I'm so glad they aren't going to do it with live-action actors. They'd never be able to find anyone that could come close to the characters.

Oh, I forgot... I did get this poster from an eBay auction awhile back, too. It's not part of the Tintin Canon, and in fact it is named Hommage à Hergé ....Tribute to Hergé, by a comic artist named Enki Bilal.

I don't know much about it, but it's a neat rendition of a more fleshed out Tintin and Snowy, instead of the usual flat 2-dimensional art that showcased beautiful draftsmanship in the books. The setting is also contemporary, and there is a very heightened sense of danger, almost a cold-war espionage feel to it. Tintin looks a little older in this tribute, sporting 5 o'clock shadow, and a bandage wrapped around a bloodied hand.

Here's a great "cast" drawing of the characters from Tintin's adventures..... interesting trivia are the two moustached detectives over Tintin's shoulder to the right. Private detectives Thompson and Thompson, though they aren't twins, DID inspire the name for the 80's Brit-pop band The Thompson Twins. !

For a good primer on Tintin, here's a fine wikipedia entry on it.
