So Hellboy II comes out this Friday. What did you think of it?
I got a chance to go to a press screening last night. This movie is pretty impressive. The story is pretty engaging and the visuals are magnificent. It's not flawless, but it is quite good. There's more a fantasy feel to this one than the first, but it works well. The opening scene with a young kid Hellboy was weird, but I think that was just because seeing a kid in Hellboy makeup was strange. But after that, everything is good or fantastic. If you liked the first Hellboy, I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy this one as well. 8/10

I liked it a lot. I saw the midnight show last night, and the two hours flew right by. The menagerie of creatures, the story, the humor and the blurring of what is good and evil all made for one of Del Toro's best movies.
This movie kind of reminded me of movies from the late 70's- early 80's. The kind that didn't break up movies into predictable acts with only three major action scenes (as we see in today's movies). I would almost liken Hellboy 2 in the same kind of scope as the classic "Clash of the Titans". An epic tale of high adventure without the boredom that mired down the "Lord of the Rings" movies. A fairy tale. Very nicely done, and I hope Del Toro brings Red back to the big screen for at least one more adventure. 9/10 P.S. My favorite characters in the movie were the Tooth Fairies. If they made little models of those for sale, I'd easily buy at least five of them.

I saw this last night, and I really enjoyed it. While all the spectacle and action is top notch, I think my favorite parts from the movie are all the little character moments along the way. Kid Hellboy was the weakest part of the movie, but I'm glad it was there so we could get a few moments of John Hurt as Prof Broom.

I saw Tuesday - I thought it was good, but the thing that stood out to me was the costumes for the actors / main characters. Just seemed fake. escpecially at the begining. Young Hellboy, that was the cheesiest. And then Abe at the begning, it just didnt blend in well I didnt think.
The rest of the movie was great though, really enjoyed it. |

Maybe he has gills on his balls.
Anyway, I forgot about this thread, but I really liked the sequel. In terms of visuals, easily the best film I've seen this year, between the tooth fairy, the troll market, the plant god, and all the elven stuff. Plot-wise I thought it was just average, but Red is a great character and it was fun to watch him in action again.

I really enjoyed it, but, yes, the plot wasn't anything super engrossing. It certainly seemed more like a device to further develop the characters, which was fine. We got some nice action sequences in there, as well as some great del Toro visuals.
