Hello fellow brew pub and brew brand appreciators. I'm amazed at the selection of odd.....weird....and strange brews at the local "Market of Choice" here in town, so I thought I'd run a thread about them all.....as I slowly go through the multitudes that line the refridgerated shelves. Course Bob has sampled a bunch of them all already, so I'm gonna move into new areas of this ancient art.
Todays brand is called ......"SkullSplitter" and hails from the Orkney Brewing Co. Orkney Islands.....Scotland. It comes in an 11.2 oz bottle and has 8.5% alc. level. Its not bad.....has kind of a mollassy taste I thought..... The labels on some of these beers are pretty funny. This one says..... "Orkney.....a small group of islands off the northern tip of Scotland, shrouded in magic and mystery, was the home of Thorfinn Hausaldorf (SkullSplitter) 7th Viking Earl of Orkney, around 1,000 A.D. Now, the Orkney Brewery invites you to step back in time, and enjoy, a unique taste of Scotland!" ![]() I'm kinda wondering...as I see all these unusual brands....if they are national? I mean have any of you seen this brand around your market? Omi?.... Last edited by Senormac : 08-09-2006 at 10:50 AM. |

When I was a kid I wanted to be a Viking. I even made a short wooden Viking sword for some school project-- named it "Pict Stabber." I had the runes carved in it and everything! .

I've had SkullSplitter a couple of times. One of the bars I go to a lot has it. I think it's pretty good. As for is this national, I think it depends on how well an area does with bringing in imports.

Ya, you're prob right. I know theres beers here that some guy just made in the next county over......and you'll never see em in Florida or Arizona.
And although the alc. content is high spacey (compared to mainline beers) having just one.....shouldn't be too damaging to the ol skull ...........just one....ya right ![]() |

Does beer from Three Floyds brewery in Munster, Indiana make it to places other than Chicago?
I'm a big fan of their "Alpha King" pale ale. ![]() Damn is that some hoppy ale. 6% ABV. Just a really really really good beer. ![]() They brew many more varieties, including "Robert the Bruce" Scotch Ale and "Behemoth" Barley Wine (10.5% ABV.) http://www.threefloyds.com/ |

Where I live, I guess most "novelty beers" probably couldn't even legally be called "beer".
![]() I don't really drink beer very often (perhaps once every other year or so), but when I do, I prefer a certain regionally limited top-fermented beer. |

I like Creemore Springs Lager. It's not really that obscure anymore, since they even sell it on tap at pubs now. But I like it.
