I still haven't figured out why George Clooney was chosen to play Bruce Wayne.Who was he supposed to look like? Michael Keaton? Val Kilmer? I don't see it.But considering 'Batman and Robin' was so childish, I figure he was chosen after the Batman WB cartoon's Bruce Wayne.Either way, bad Batman.

I find it unfair to judge how good his performance was, as Akiva Goldsman wrote an awful script and Joel Schumacher directed the whole mess...er a film stupidly.
As for why he was cast: He really does look like Bruce Wayne and probably played Wayne better than either Kilmer or Keaton. ------------------ SITE: Pure Batman 5 Rumors I want you to tell all of your friends about me -Batman |

I think Clooney could have been a pretty good Batman if he had a decent script to work with. I think people didn't like him because it wasn't Michael Keaton, which is ridiculous since Keaton isn't the only one actor who can play Batman. To be honest, he wasn't that great as Batman and there are alot of actors better then him who could have been cast in the role.

Well, It's sort of obvious why Keaton was chosen...friendly with Burton.I wouldn't have minded Clooney as Batman. If they started with him from scratch, They got Kilmer because he resembled Keaton..They got George because he was a big name.Oh well, We won't be seeing him again as Batman, which is pleasant to me.However, I agree George was probably the best Bruce Wayne so far in the movies, and Keaton may have been worst for his comedic portrayal of him.

--My whole take on the subject is this:
Michael Keaton: a superb performance as Bruce Wayne... percieved as a billionaire playboy, but we got to see this neurotic, almost psychotic side of him... so in that sense, I could see him breaking over to this other persona... Batman. Keaton was good in the cape and cowl too, but I just couldn't believe, from a physical standpoint, that this 5 1/2 foot wimp, turned into this 6 foot + master of hand-to-hand combat. Val Kilmer... physically believable as Batman and Bruce Wayne. Believable as the playboy type. Extremely stoic as Batman, but he sounded like he had a cold all the time. I didn't believe that Kilmer's Wayne was screwed up enough to be Batman. George Clooney... I think Clooney would've been a really good Batman, if he had had a decent script and director. I think he was the most believable as Bruce Wayne *AND* Batman in mental, pschological, and physical traits. It'd be nice if they could stick with him, should they continue the series. |

Keaton was a poor Bruce Wayne in my opinion. Where was the charm? WHere was that playboy attitude? Keaton isn't the most charming guy around, and that's what was lacking in his Bruce Wayne. He played the character as though he were Batman out of his suit, instead of giving us the Bruce Wayne act.

You're right about Michael Keaton. He really didn't play the duality between Batman and Bruce Wayne too well. As you stated, even when he was Bruce Wayne he was still Batman and I couldn't have put it any better myself. I mean, at least with George Clooney, even though the script sucked, he handled the duality of the character very well and did his best despite a poor script. In fact, Clooney is one of the biggest critics of the movie and has often criticized Joel Schumacher direction on Batman and Robin.

Personally I thought Clooney was great in Batman and Robin. I'd love to see him in a GOOD Batman flick.

Dosn't the fact that he looks nothing like the 2 previous people to play Batman mean anything?

Nope, it's no different then James Bond to be honest with you. None of those actors looked anything like each other. It would be hard to cast actors who look exactly like the previous actors and I wouldn't ask any director or casting director to do that.
