Just trying to get the ball rolling by saying was literally LMAO when I saw Kwick22a's Secret Origin picture. What makes it even funnier is the fact that I'm working on an X-Statix image. Good job Kwick.

Rest of UIR to come later today.

uir

superman: the edges are rough. image could use some cleanup. i would love to see something from you other than superman. yeah you've done a gl and a spider-man, but for the most parts it's superman. i would like to see waht you could do with other costumes.

boys are back: costumes are painty as is the mystique skin. the middle character has no defintion on the chest....it's just a flat color. with the the mystique character there is no skin tone, it's just a color...work on bringing out highlights on the skin as well. photoshop is a monster application, you will improve over time. i would work on using the dodge and burn tools to create a more defined character. even on skin, dodge and burn tools are your friends.

xmen united: really can't say this is a manip, for the most part its a cut and paste. i'm not trying to be insulting, but other than eyes and lens flare theres not much manipulation. you did however do a great layout. i would have like to have see maybe all of the "good" mutants on one side and the "bad" mutants on another. or have scott and jean together, little stuff like that would help for the geek factor. i think the fire is not necessary...but it doesn't hurt the image. lighting on certain characters seems off, for instance magnetos face is lit up, but charles xaviers face is dim....where is the light source? the images are clean on the edges and really no pixelation or rough edges (except for storms hair, but it is minor). good work.

tempest: don't know if i'm crazy for the water effects, but for the most part good job. the swirls are nice on the pants, maybe a slight seam.

birds of prey: bane! sweet. as always, top notch stuff.

domino: a black eye. the black looks flat for the most part, i see a slight curve here and there, but it's because that it's just slapped on black and there really isn't any visible skin tone thats why it looks so flat. i would like to see a costume.

just fyi to all of the artists that change skin colors and such. is it not plausible to think that if someone has a different skin color or a marking like psylocke's that their texture of their skin would still be visible? i mean tinting skin is nothing, painting over the skin is really nothing, but making it so that the skin still has texture and interacts with the image as a whole, now thats something. i know not everyone that submits stuff is super skilled at whatever app, but keep in mind...it's the little things that really improve your work. yeah, anyone can change the hue of an image to green, and submit it as the hulk, but not everyone can change the hue, correct the eyes and mouth, darken up the lips, add some light hits to the body where the light hits it, darken the shadows, add some highlights to the hair, etc. okay i vented.

dragon night: looks nice. i like the knight, he looks cool. dragon doesn't look to menacing to me. nice detail on the cave entrance.

wolverine: add some lighting and shading to the black so that it doesn't look so flat. the yellow is just changed skin hue, doesn't really say costume, doesnt flush up with the neck either.

jenifer garner: very sexy and nice pose. i like the look alot....i would love to see color.

superman test: billy zane, why does he still get acting jobs? anyway...nice concept. it's rough, but the point is made.

cyborg: wow, looks great. i like how you handled the flesh and metal coming together. great job brining in the arms. really no complaints.

kane: looks nice. the mask is well done. i really don't get the feel of muscalature in his chest, but that might be because it is cut off. i like the hair, looks good.

green lantern: nice. my only complaint on the gif is the animation needs to be reversed. i like it, i think that you should add additional frames and reverse the animation so that the ring glows up, then back down, and repeats. right now it just powers up and disappears. of course due to file size limitations you might not be able to do that. if you get a chance add a light green light lighting up the costume in time with the ring. great poser figure. i lie the face and the pose alot. really great work.

secret origins: omg! that would hurt....poor hulk.

rachel summers: wow, the hair looks very interesting. very cool looking. the burn marks are nice...for some reason she looks furry, i think it's just the pixelation and the sub-concious tiger thing. love the rich colors, nice work.

mr dent: not a bad coloring job. i like the look. very rough and gritty. maybe put a scuffed up coin in the background.

Rachel Summers by Psylockegirl: I was very impressed by this. I never liked the look of Rachel as the "hound" in the comics, but you made it work. The eyes alone are amazing.

I wouldn't change a thing about it other than I would have put it on the Front Page. (No offense intended to TazmanC or jjmarreiro.)

Keep up the good work.

I'll try to do a full UIR later, but quick props to the Cyborg and Rachel pics. Great work.

Now...

D'oh! I wish I'd thought of that... I couldn't come up with a good background. Ah well, next time I guess.

As far as the colouring goes, like I said, I'm still learning the ropes. I don't think its bad either, but it's not great. Unfortunately, being Photoshopless, I can't use Ed's tutorials.

First off, thanks for the great rant, Dan. You're right, of course. All aspiring artists should take note: If you just change the hue on skin tones, the result looks far too flat. What I personally do (for those who care--yes, both of you ) is to bring out the highlights and dark areas before changing the colour. This way, I find you don't lose as much definition during the change and it's easier to see what parts of the image need some touching up afterwards. It works for me, anyway.

Now, the UIR...

One-piece Suit by Zortech Industrial
The costume's good, but the pic's really messy in spots (such as the right hand) and the cape's way too square. Also, there should probably be seams and wrinkles.

The Boys Are Back And Ready To Play by Super Max
This is really flat. I think dperceful pointed out most of the particularly notable culprits. You should take note of dperceful's italicized rant above. (And, hopefully to my reply. )

X-men United by a1ant
It's just a cut-n-paste, really, but it's still pretty good. Nice layout. Nits: the lighting on the faces doesn't really match in either direction or tint; I'm not too sure about that fire; and Iceman would look better all iced up, not half-and-half.

Titans Swimsuit Special: Tempest by Nathauan13
This is good. The water effects look good, just not quite as realistic as the rest. The folds in the shorts shouldn't just disappear where you had to put in the swirls, though.

Birds Of Prey Litographs by DAVID GUIVANT
Awesome, as usual.

Domino by Super Max
The black around the eye looks really flat (and a bit jagged), and a costume would be nice. The skin also looks a bit washed out.

A Dragon Night Page 1 by MankindRam
Cool stuff. I think this'd look great in colour. (Any takers?) The skulls and bones are nice (even though they don't look human really). Minor nit about the layout: the three middle panels are too close together. Some white space between them would improve the presentation.

Woverine/chris Benoit by coven
The black parts look really flat. The hair's too blurry. The main problem here is that it doesn't really look like a costume. This is possibly my number one pet peeve in photomanipulation, so here's my own mini-rant:

Fabrics and skin are not the same thing. Whether the character is wearing spandex, leather, metal, cloth or whatever, the costumed parts should not have the same texture as the skin. The first three in particular are renowned for being shiny, which means they have more noticeable highlights and dark areas than skin does. (Particularly shiny clothing should also reflect the environment somewhat, though that's admittedly easier said than done.) Clothes also tend to have wrinkles and/or folds in them, especially when they're loose--ie, capes. Even skintight clothing wrinkles around joints. Clothing also has seams, which need to follow the folds of the clothing rather than being completely straight. If you just change the colour of the skin, you don't end up with a costume but rather with body paint. Okay, stepping off the soapbox now.

Jennifer Garner's Elektra by Spiderman620815
Great drawing. Love the pose. My only problem is that the legs look way too thick, completely out of proportion with the rest of the body. Also, the waist seems a bit too small.

Superman Test by supermandevilee
I'm afraid I rather dislike Mr. Zane too. It is a bit rough and jagged-looking, but it's good. I'm certain the work'll improve as you gain more familiarity with the software. It is a bit painted-on looking, though.

Michael Jai White As Cyborg by jjmarreiro
Great stuff. Probably your best work to date, IMODO. Only problem I can see is that the direction of light on the various parts doesn't really match.

Kane by dark angel
Great stuff, especially the mask. It's a bit messy though, innit?

Green Lantern Animated by TazmanC
Great work, but the glow just vanishes and doesn't show up on the costume at all. (In other words, what dperceful said.)

Secret Origins Revealed Also by Kwick22a
Heh. Well, that explains that.

Rachel Summers by Psylockegirl
Wow. Awesome. Her skin's a bit pixelated, unfortunately. The burn scars look fantastic. So do the eyes and, well, everything else. I think this is my favourite of today's update.

The rest of my UIR

One-Piece Suit
by Zortech Industrial
This looks very pixelated. Nice job on the suit though.

The Boys are Back and ready to play
by Super Max
Dperceful said it all in his uir.

X-Men United
by a1ant
Nice cut and paste job.

Titans Swimsuit Special: Tempest
by Nathauan13
Okay. Nice water effect.

Birds of Prey Litographs
by DAVID GUIVANT
This is really good, but your stuff always is.

Domino
by Super Max
like I said, Dperceful said it all.

A Dragon Night Page 1
by MankindRam
This is cool. You might want to work on those dragon scales though. Find a nice picture a reptile that has scales that you think would look good on a dragon and use that as a reference.

Jennifer Garner's Elektra
by Spiderman620815
Nice. I still think you are drawing the waists of your characters way too small. Even if you have your own style of drawing, there should still be a sense of proportion there.

uperman test
by supermandevilee
Again, see Dperceful’s UIR.

Michael Jai White as Cyborg
by jjmarreiro
This is good. The only thing that I think needs work is the brightness/contrast level of Michael Jai White’s face. It doesn’t look like its under the same light as his cyborg parts.

kane
by dark angel
Nice drawing. Who is this?

Green Lantern Animated
by TazmanC
Nice animation. I think it would be more dramatic if the light from the ring hit GL’s body as it became brighter.

Secret Origins Revealed Also
by Kwick22a
LMAO!

Rachel Summers
by Psylockegirl
I like Brittany Daniel, especially in Joe Dirt (yowza!). Nice picture, I just hate to see her face covered up like that.

Mr. Dent
by B
Decent drawing, but lets leave the “Tim Sale style” to Tim Sale.

Hello all! I just sumbited a pic I made (my first in many, many months). Thought I'd UIR. Here we go!

One-piece Suit by Zortech Industrial: Cool concept, but very pixelated. Might want to get a higher quality by resizing your pic smaller.

The Boys Are Back And Ready To Play by Super Max: Lol! Which one's you?

X-men United by a1ant: I love it!!! One of the best "cut and pastes" I've seen. I like Jean's hair long. I like Iceman too.

Titans Swimsuit Special: Tempest by Nathauan13: Really, really cool! Nice water effect!

Birds Of Prey Litographs by DAVID GUIVANT- As always, very good.

Domino by Super Max- Not much to comment on. I have been gone awhile. You got 2 pics in on the same day!

A Dragon Night Page 1 by MankindRam- No problems here! Very cool and nice clean edges.

Woverine/chris Benoit by coven- I always thought Wolverine's neck would be this big.

Jennifer Garner's Elektra by Spiderman620815- There's some really good elements here, but to make it perfect it needs some work. Her waist is way too thin and her right arm is out of perspective. The face and hair look good.

Superman Test by supermandevilee: For your 1st try with your new program this is pretty good. Might want to tone down Superman's costume saturation.

Michael Jai White As Cyborg by jjmarreiro: Awesome metal look! Great job!

Kane by dark angel: Good work! I'm a bit confused because I didn't think this stuff was allowed in the DCG anymore. I submited a fantasy piece and it was rejected, but wrestlers get in? Hmm...

Green Lantern Animated by TazmanC: Neato! Major kudos go out to you for originality. Good job.

Secret Origins Revealed Also by Kwick22a- Lmao as always!

Rachel Summers by Psylockegirl- Absolutely my favorite pic today!!!! I felt this was front page material. I love this, I love this, I love this!!!!! Need I say more?

Mr. Dent by B- Pretty cool. Like the drawing.
