Time for a new Hints'N'Tips thread. For those wishing to catch up
Hints'N'Tips #1 is here.

Well I don't know how useful this tip is, but it can give a pretty nice effect so here goes..

.. i call it 'Grainy Drawing'

First thing you need is a photo or even a completed photomanip for which you want to add an extra level of interest.

Duplicate the picture onto two new layers and set the blend mode on both layers to Darken.

On one of the duplicate layers apply a Gaussian Blur with a radius of about 4 (or whatever gives you a pleasing effect - experiment).

On the other duplicate layer use Effects > Edge > Enhance to bring out any lines on the image more sharply.

The combination of these two layers over your original gives (to me anyway) a pleasing gritty grainy drawing effect.

This picture shows before and after.

I hadn't doone any actual drawing in years (other than doodling) but i decided recently to try my hand at it again. And i thought if i was gonna do it, i would try and do it right, hence the link. I haven't anything worth posting here yet, but maybe i'll get the nerve to post some actual drawings to complement my manips. It's always good to stretch yourself. I guess thats my other tip for the day

time for a bump and a tip i think...

http://www.geocities.com/zorikhl/tutorial1.html

This is a page all about comics, which also includes some advice on the creation of the story and characters. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see other links to specific topics you might be interested - creating the story and how to go about pencilling your ideas. I would suggest you read through the pages in order though, as they are quite nicely done.
