Well gang, it's been a full year since we all got together and recognized the stand outs in the DCG community. This year we have a whole new process in place to determine the winners, a few new categories, and some great new artists to welcome to the community. With that said..........

Live from the Web it's the 2004 DCG Awards. Tonight we have an all-star gala planned for everyone. Just looking at the crowd that is assembled (sound of crickets chirping) this is sure to be a night for everyone to remember. Without further delay we will go inside and get the festivities started. Here is your host for tonight's show, the one......the only...............Lou Diamond Phillips. (whisper)What we couldn't get Lou? Your serious! We couldn't get Lou Diamond Phillips....what is he busy doing, Young Guns 3: Help resurrect Lou and Emilio's Careers. We have to find someone.....anyone. What about Fozzy....you know the muppet bear. Muppet...part marionette/part puppett. What are you staring at me for.......what........No, muppets were not mythical creatures they had a TV show for Pete's sake. Look, we need to get back on target.....we need to find a host for this Awards show. Hey....you, yes you. Interested in hosting an awards show? I'm totally serious. Look put this on, read this stuff you'll do fine.(/whisper) Here is your host.....(whisper)what's your name....dperce.....how they hell do you pronounce that? That's not going to work....for tonight....your Billy Crystal. I don't care if you don't sound or look like him...it's written media....no one is going to know.(/whisper)......BILLLLLLLLLLY CRYSTAL!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the 2004 DCG Awards. I see we have a packed house of who's who in the audience. I haven't seen this many stars since I saw a squirell sit on his nuts.....his nuts. And the last award for this year is one that no one voted on. Earlier this year the world lost a true Superman, Christopher Reeve. Many of us will remember Christopher Reeve as Superman. He will also be remembered as a man who gave so many the ability to dream that a man could really fly. This year we honor the memory of Christopher Reeve by creating the Christopher Reeve Memorial Tribute Award. A donation of $25 will be made to the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation in the name of this year's winner. It is an honor this year to announce that the Christopher Reeve Memorial Tribute Award goes to the man who gave us this wonderful site. Robbo, thank you for letting us all have a place to come together and share our thoughts and passion. Thank you, and please accept this award from all of us here at the DCG.

Well that's it kids. Another year, another awards. I want to congratulate all of the winners and runners up. Your truly an inspiration to all of the artists here and I don't think there is not one artist here who does not admire your work. Feel free to make some acceptance speeches or answer a few questions about yourself and your work.

How/why did you start manipping?
Who're your favourite artists and/or greatest inspiration, both in the DCG and in the comics/art world?
What's your favourite part of doing a manip/drawing?
What do you personally think of your award winning art piece?
What process do you use to develop art?
Where does your inspiration come from?
Any advice for aspiring artists?

Again, thank you all. Have a wonderful night, party responsibly, and drive safely.

P.S. If any nominated artist would like to see the results of their particular category email dcgawards@yahoo.com and I will be more than happy to send them to you.

Wow, congratulations to everybody! I couldn't be happier with this year's results; I agree with every one of the choices. I'm glad my favourite artists got the recognition they deserve, whether in nomination form or a full win.

Thanks must go out to Dan, as none of this would happen without him, as well as his committee of voters who helped get the awards on track.

Thank you as well to those who voted for me. I appreciate it very much. BUT, thank you to all those who just voted. It is your participation that make it possible for Dan to do this.

Wow! Now that is a surprise. Of the pleasant variety, obviously. I was certainly hoping to nab something, but I didn't expect three somethings (or one and two-halves somethings, depending on your point of view). I'll try and tackle those questions in a bit, but I guess I'd better do the whole speechifying thing first, right?

So... First off, I'd like to thank the Academy, of course, even though we don't have an Academy.

Next, I'd like to thank Robbo for creating this whole mad, wonderful site and community, Essex, Zac and all the other Moderator folks for running the boards, and Essex again for running the gallery and putting together that swank Awards Update. I'd also like to thank the DCG community as a whole for being great, Welshcat for being purple, and Jedi Knight Pas-Jo Dacle for slaughtering enough cows to provide our banquet for the evening. And, of course, a huge thanks to Dan Perceful and the Secret Society of Super-Nominators for giving us the awards in the first place.

And lest I forget, I'd also like to thank everyone who's ever given me a UIR or banged out an email to me. You folks are why I do this stuff, and your comments are always appreciated. In particular, thanks to Adam (Essex) Thur, Dan Perceful, Zac Pensol and Bill Turner for giving me the best advice, suggestions and ego-shatteringly correct criticisms any artist could ask for. Without those four gentlemen, my work wouldn't be anywhere near what it is.

I'd also like to thank everyone who voted for me. And to my opponents, I'd like to say -- nyah! nyah! Beat you!

*ahem*

Joking. Seriously, I'll take a page out of Dustin Hoffman's book and say how glad I am to be nominated alongside such fine artists. I refuse to believe that I beat any of you, or that I'm better than you, I just had a good run. Next year, I'm sure you'll all get your revenge. Cheers!

And, last but not least, I would like to thank my parents for not practising safe sex, and I'd like to thank Steven Spielberg, cause dammit, it can't hurt.

Now let's see if I can pry Kev away from the drinks bar...

Congradulations to everybody! You all deserved to win!

Wow, Android really swept the Robbies this year! He's going like "Titanic" (the movie, not the boat.) By the way, are the winners getting emailed that they've won? I haven't seen Android around here lately.

*walks up to the podium in his Zebra skin Zuit suit (attempting a 'Z' theme that no one catches on to)*

ahem...

Ladies and Gentlemen of the DCG.... THANKS!!

Really, thanks everyone. Not just for voting my Fantastic Four picture as the Best Marvel Image, but thanks for taking the time to vote at all. Thanks for sticking with the DCG Awards even through the trouble we had. Thanks for just being such a wonderful community of people! You guys really are the greatest! And a very special thanks to Dan for taking so much time out of his scedule just to do this, you rule Dan!!! Also a big thanks to Adam, the editor of the DCG who also takes time out of his busy scedule just to make sure that the DCG is updated on a regular basis. Well... sometimes regular. When he's not spending his nights running naked through the streets of Toronto, a chinchilla on each shoulder, a bottle of yager in his right hand and his "man-bra" in the other. Oh, and a great big thanks to Dan's fellowship of nominators, without whom this awards ceremony would have been a lot more complicated.

Oh, and great idea with the Christopher Reeve award, and I can't think of a more deserving person to win other than Robbo.

All in all, good job everyone who was nominated and congrats to those who won, all of you deserve your awards completely!! This year, I believe, has seen a lot better quality of pictures than previous years, I think the first DCG awards play a large part in that. Here's to next year's awards!!!!! Goodnight!!!

*struts away, an unnamed DCG animal-rights activist trips him and takes his Zebra jacket and runs off*

Wow!

Dan, thank you so much. I am extremely honored to be the recipient of such a cool and thoughtful award. I am, of course, a huge fan of Christopher Reeve's Superman movies. I became an even bigger fan of the guy who showed us what courage in the face of unremitting adversity looks like. So, it's a great priviledge and very moving for me to receive this award.

But of course, it's Essex who keeps the gallery going day after day, and Zac and the other moderators who keep these message boards running. And...it is you all who contribute the art that makes the gallery worth visiting. Everybody give yourselves a pat on the back.

Further proof I need to stop into the message boards more often...I didn't even know the DCG Awards had come and gone.

My congratulations to the all winners, and my thanks to those who nominated and voted for my work.

...Although I'm kinda shocked I had three noms for "Best Movie Poster" and all of them were defeated. A worthy opponent you are indeed, kev_incal. *thumbs up*
