It can get worse than that - I lived in Helsinki for a while, just north of the 60th parallel. However, I was bothered more by the fact that the sun hardly went down at all during the summer, so I didn't get much sleep. The long winter nights didn't bother me at all - though I think Finland is one of the countries with the highest suicide rates.
