The Hellboy sections has been pretty dead lately, so I'll try and start some conversation:

What do you guys think of Ron Perlman playing Hellboy? Will he deliver, or would you have rather seen Vin Deisel in the part? Or maybe someone else altogether?

Personally, I don't like Deisel. Well, more specifically, I don't like his movies and the fact that he is on his way to becoming one of the next generation action stars...please, god, if u exist, do not let this happen!!! Anyway, back to Hellboy. I have been a Perlman fan for quite a while, and I think he'll not only be able to pull off the acting, but he actually looks remarkably like Hellboy!!! (well, more so than any other actor i can think of...) I can't wait for this to come out, it seems so far that it will be quite a bit different than most big-name comic book movies.

What makes you say that about Perlman's acting? I've seen him in a bunch of stuff and I think he's pretty good. Plus he has that deep, scratchy voice that I think fits the Hellboy character perfectly.

Did you read the same post I just read? Sickboy didn't say anything bad about Perlman.

Yeah, I think Raven mixed the names up. Sickboy likes Perlman but has his doubts about good ol' Vin (who seems to be dividing the community right down the middle).

D'oh, my bad. He says he thinks Perlman will "not only be able to pull off the acting..." and my eyes skipped the "only" part. Sorry.

i think Perlman is perfect for the Hellboy role, like the rest of you have said, he kinda looks like him, and his voice is just like you'd imagine Hellboys to be. Vin Diesel would've been OK, but it would've been a cop-out on the part of the studio, pickin' a 'big star' like Diesel.
and while we're on the subject of casting, has anyone seen the guy who's playing Abe Sapien? i can't remember his name, but i think he's the guy from MIB who gets his head shot off by tommy Lee Jones. if this is the guy, i think it's another case of good casting, as he does look a little like good ol' Abe.

its Doug Jones who's playing Abe, and he wasn't the one who get his head shot off in MiB....

Tony Shalhoub got his head shot off in MIB. He was almost unrecognizable with the contact lens and the fake teeth. Good actor. Doug Jones who's playing Abe in Hellboy also played one of The Gentlemen in the episode of Buffy called Hush. He's a tall very skinny guy who's played a TON of monsters over his career. I have no doubt he'll be great as Abe. I think they're dubbing his voice with a more famous person but I'm not sure.

its great that they are not casting big names in this movie. but that could mean it wont do well. i think it all depends on the marketing. but vin dieseil would have sucked big hair goat nads. pearlman is the perfect choice, hands down.
