Fox developing "Them"

By Karl Schneider     November 10, 2006
Source: Variety

According to Variety, Fox is developing an hour-long alien-themed TV show called Them.

The show, from Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3), David Eick (Battlestar Galactica) and John McNamara (Profit), involves a sleeper cell of extraterrestrial terrorists who take the shape of humans. Their mission is compromised when they start experiencing human emotions, which act like a drug on the aliens.

"On a surface level, it's a really cool science fiction thriller," Mostow said. "But underneath, it's a very provocative show that's really going to explore what it means to be human, to be a person."

Mostow is attached to direct and executive produce while Eick and McNamara are writing the script.

does it sound like "V"...remember that show anyone?

I was hoping for a show about radiated giant ants. Hate to say it, I think this one will last about three episodes, and have the complete series DVD set end up in the sale bin at walmart by Christmas 2008. I don't like to be so pessimistic (and hope I'm wrong) but it just doesn't strike me as a compelling concept. And actually, it reminds me more of the 1980's show War of the Worlds. I remember "V". Does anybody else remember "War of the Worlds?"

The 80s War of the Worlds was when the aliens came out of hibernation, right? It was called the second coming or second invasion or something like that? I think lochkray's right; this show won't make it past the first few episodes.

Lochkray, I was hoping for the ants, too. I thought I was the only one who remembered them!

lochkray, GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!! That was almost word for word what I was going to post, so...excellent post!

A good show could be an adaptation of John Carpenter's They Live......just a suggestion....

Much as I love sci-fi shows, this sounds dull to me. We've had V, Alien Legion, Enterprise, and scores of other productions with this sort of theme. Frankly, I'm not interested this time around.

Lochkray seems to have posted the correct response to this story. I absolutley hated that War of the Worlds TV series. The premise was based on the 1950's movie were the Martians nearly destroyed the world, but in the modern era where the heroes would try to warn people of their return , nobody believed them. Like being in Europe and talking about WWII & Nazi atrocities and no one remembers. Stupid.

"a sleeper cell of extraterrestrial terrorists who take the shape of humans." Stopped reading right there. Seriously, aliens who 'take the form of humans' is the sort of cheap special-effects-budget-savers that we grew tired of in the 80s. Come on, show me some freakin' aliens, for chrissakes, not just some actor with a spacy expression who's an 'alien in disguise!'
