After quite a few near hits in their directing pool search, 20th Century Fox may have finally found a man to helm the spinoff X-Men Origins: Deadpool. Deadline is reporting that Visual Effects mastermind Tim Miller may be making his directorial debut on the production which centers on comic mercenary.

Miller has worked within Marvel's silver screen universe before after being charged with the visual effects for Fox's previous X-Men installments. His recent work includes his company, Blur Studio, working alongside Ron Howard on pre-visuals for the upcoming Dark Tower adaptation and assisting in pre-production for the planned Heavy Metal remake.

If Miller boards the production, he will direct based on a screenplay by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Lauren Shuler Donner is producing.

No word yet on whether Ryan Reynolds will reprise the character last seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Previous reports had the actor interested but with Reynolds having a busy schedule, one of which includes playing the Green Lantern this summer, the trades remain quiet on whether he will tackle the role for this spinoff. It should also be noted that the rumor vine suggests that Reese and Wernick's script will be a heavy departure from the way that Reynolds portrayed "the merc with a mouth" in the first Wolverine installment.

Hmm... is that why you call yourself Violator

so glad to hear that its a "heavy departure" Ryan Reynolds is a decent actor, but hes mostly known for comedy which is okay for the wisecracking side of Deadpool, but his turn of the character in Wolverine was too PG-13 for the nature of the character. Let Reynolds be the Lantern, find someone better to play Deadpool, and on that note, how about comic book movies stop using the same actors to fill alternate roles? its confusing. Especially within the same universe (heres looking at YOU MARVEL), i guess we'll have to see how the Human Captain America Torch: The Flaming Avenger turns out.

Think if done right a deadpool movie could be amazing... it has to be super violent, crazy action, and not take itself too seriously... I hope renolds is replaced, they need a virtual unknown who will stay under the mask.

No Mortal Kombat/Marvel Universe crossover for the Deadbarakpoola backstory?

One step closer. Sounds alright. Reynolds always seemed interested in playing the character again, so I think he'll do this. It's also nice to hear that the new Heavy Metal movie is still in the works.

Somebody get on Reynolds ass and see if he is still in for Deadpool.  Hell I'll write and direct Deadpool.  I want deadpool.

I'd act in it too, but I look too much like Tom Cruise.

If he grew an extra couple of inches and bloated out a bit.

Okay, so I've told the ladies I'm what Tom looked like if he let himself go.  And turned half filipino.

Somebody needs to do Deadpool.  And soon.

If Green Lantern is a success...why would Reynolds want to do it?  I think he would be brining too much comic book baggage to the game.  Like Robert Downey Jr. playing Green Arrow.

I wouldn't doubt that it would be a departure.  After all, they seem to be incapable of keeping the X Universe consistant.
