Fucking A!!!

Weta also did the trippy hyperspace sequence in Jodie Foster's Contact, so a combination of that and a CG Surfer of Gollum's sophistication should be pretty sweet.

Agreed. Weta's hyperspace sequence and the alien worlds were a delight.

These guys are on a roll!!!...sometimes I feel they do a better job than Skywalker Ranch or is it just me? oh and of course, Andy Serkis would have been a good choice also.........

Well, now we are guaranteed one thing for sure..... the special effects for the Surfer will be amazing. The one really cool thing about Weta, is that they are always trying to compete with only one team, themselves. They are always trying to top what they have done before, so we are in for something awesome. Now let's just pray the story and acting match up.

I honestly didnt know that Weta existed in 1997, effects have certainly moved on since then though Contact still stands up remarkably well (Carl Sagan was and is a legend). Ultimatly its the story that FF2 will be judged by not the effects. Great story + great effects = success. So why didnt Superman Returns become 'the' film of the year?!

Great news for FF2. i agree with klaatu1701 on thwo points...#1-Carl Sagan was an amazing man and #2-the story must be what drives FF2, not the effects. I'm glad to see that Tim Story did get Weta for the Surfer's effects.

Sorry, just needed to correct. Sony Pictures Imageworks did the CG effects for Contact, not Weta. Credit where credit's due..Sony do most of the CG work for Robert Zemeckis.

Well now we know the FX will kick ass. Now if they can just Peter Jackson to direct it.
