Against all odds and early media predictions of its demise, sources say that Fox will be picking up a season two of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse", says The Hollywood Reporter. The renewal becomes the third freshman series to be given another chance by the network after their early pick-ups for "Fringe" and "Lie to Me".

The official announcement will not be made until Monday at the network's upfront presentation, but sources confirm a deal has been struck for another 13 episodes. Fox plans to continue the show on Fridays next fall.

Another genre show speculated to be dead in our TV wasteland is "The Sarah Connor Chronicles". We should learn on Monday whether the network will renew the series for a third season. Like its Friday night companion "Dollhouse", the Terminator-based series was plagued with low ratings but considering the fact that Whedon's show ended its first run with a miserable 1.0 among the prized demographic of Adults 18-49, this latest news could give fresh hopes to "Sarah Connor" fans. Stay tuned, Maniacs.

Wow! Didn't see that one coming.  Maybe they'll leave Joss Whedon the f- alone and let him run his show.

Well, call me "dumbfounded". I did not see this coming. I hoped, but am damn surprised. I mean it is Fox after all. The only thing I can think of that swayed Fox`s decision is that its only a 13 -episode season. I am really hoping that they renew TSCC but the fact that its usually around 22 episodes  and probably costs more to film doesn't bold well. Maybe they can cut it down to 13 eps like Dollhouse. 13 episodes of TSCC is better than nothing and the quality of the episodes would probably go way up.

I read somewhere else that the reason they gave Dollhouse another chance was because Joss Whedon said he could do it under a certain amount per episode.  The last episode, not shown, supposedly costs a lot less than others and has gotten good reviews, it was on Hulu, I know but I don't know if that's their basis...or maybe they did show it but that was part of their reason.  TSCC is going to cost more than anything no matter what I suppose so that probably doesn't bode well for it but here's to hoping.

I'm really happy...

I think its a really good show - they just did a horrible job advertising it especially to women.

I got my wife to watch it and her response was "wow I really like this show - I had ZERO interest in it from the ads I saw"

Consider this a big FRAK YOU to all the Mania Reviewers (AKA Haters) who consistently didn't care to understand Dollhouse or give it a shot.

I am happy for the forty lonely guys who watch this show on friday nights. Tv has really gotten desperate lol!

THis would have been the first faux cancelation I"d have approved of.

Go figure.

They renewed it.

I didn't start watching Dollhouse until very recently and got to sixth episode so far. The reason was that I was afraid of an abrupt cancellation and the reviews and ill opinions that I read around. I had high hopes, however.

On one hand, the latter were not unanimous -and not specially well-reasoned, not even the ones I found in this site. On the other, it was a Whedon's show. Believe me when I say I am not a fan-follower. What I credit him for, I do for his own merits, namely Firefly, Serenity and Dr. Horrible, and not only because of those works by themselves, but for the absolutely well-crafted writing of them and the terrifically well-handled acting they contained.

It wasn't a letdown and even the worst reviewed episode was not really bad -Stagefright. And the last one I watched was pure genius in terms of wit, both in dialogue and construction, with performances ranging from good to insightfully brilliant.

I don't live in the States, so I cannot fully understand the social dynamics behind television ratings, but quite frankly, I don't care. There is too much supply of good shows out there, so I don't think quality is a factor, and of course, bad ratings do not point to it either -that is just insane.

About the possible reason of Dollhouse  surviving for another season being tight-budgeted, I wouldn't be surprised. It's not the first time I hear of that Whedon's capability.

Well, just my proverbial two cents. My girlfriend and I am are just glad it got renewed -and anyway, I was already glad to hear the season finale provided a good closure anyway.

MisterZ, the sixth episode is where the show finally started to "feel" like a Whedon show.  The rest of the episodes after number 6 are all pretty good especially the last couple episodes.

Can't believe Fox has the balls to renew this show.  Here's hoping they move it to a better night where it can find it's audience.  Maybe Tuesday nights with Fringe?
