It was only a matter of time before this project was finally greenlit after the success of TRANSFORMERS. That time has finally come, says Variety. 20th Century Fox under their subsidiary, New Regency, has agreed to VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE getting adapted to the big screen under executive producer Mark Gordon who has been developing the project. The producer has hinted that his adaptation will be a post-apocalyptic tale of survival set in New York City and Mexico.

VOLTRON is a sword wielding super robot assembled and disassembled by 5 Galaxy Alliance pilots  who control vehicles shaped like lions. They combine together to make a massive robot that does battle against an evil menace.

The Voltron script outline which was featured on the Latino Review website--despite a forced good review, sucked blue balls!!!

Voltron 1, 2, or 3?
This could F'n ROCK,
ESPECIALLY after how good Transformers was! (not being sarcastic, I'm going to kick out 8 more bucks this weekend for more Transformers)
I'm voting for Voltron 2, BRING ON THE LIONS!

Sorry, it's been a while for me...but I could have sworn that Voltron was more in the vein of "Star Wars", as in having no ties to Earth? I've tried watching the cartoon recently on Cartoon Network, but DEAR GOD it's so cheesy to me now. I could have sworn it was some other planet than Earth. Am I just remembering incorrectly?

Oh Boy This Has Power Rangers Written All Over It. Cheesy Oversized Monsters, Terrible Acting. I'm Sure Voltron Would Look Good Though. Lets Just See How Much Screen Time He Gets.

No your correct.Voltron took place on planet Aries/ Aris? Though if I remember correctly the 5 pilots were supposed to bring voltron back to earth so maybe this is some sort of sequel henche the NY/Mexico locations? If it isnt a sequel and this idiot set voltron in NY/Mexico, this movie will bomb. Out of curiousity, what do you mean by voltron 1, 2 and 3?

the lions voltron first episode the 5 guys started on earth as part of the earth defense force. They were sent to aris to find and bring back Voltron to fight Zarkons ro-beasts.

If they do this on earth they will ruin the entire storyline and might as well just shoot themselves in the head now and save the money and time. What they going to do, have Princess Aurora be Princesss of New York or Mexico, hey why not get Uwe Bowle to direct if you want it that way, has oscar written all over it.

Never was a fan of Voltron...in any incarnation! I'd rather see Battle of the Planets (aka G-Force) instead of this!

I'm an idiot I din't read the synopsis as I was too excited when I last posted. Looks like lions it is.
videocide,
If I remember correctly ther were 3 incarnations of Voltron.
1 was a Giant robot made up of a bunch (like 20 or more) different vehicles. (pictured above)
2 was the best, The 5 lions
and 3 was the lamest, 3 smaller robots combined to make 1 larger robot (with 6 arms or something)

Really, they should leave this one to a live action TV show a la 'Power Rangers'.

Bring on Gatchamon/G-Force/Battle of the Planets! Just decide what to call it, the character names and the location.
