Walt Disney has tapped a director for their live action modern take on SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS. Director Francis Lawrence (Constantine, I Am Legend) has been selected to helm the modern take of the classic animated movie. The current "working" title for the film is Snow and the Seven though that will most likely change.

Plot Summary: It centers on a 19 century british girl who is raised in Hong Kong. Once she finds out she is destined to defeat something sinister, she is trained by seven Shaolin monks to do battle against the force of evil.

Francis Lawrence is currently working on the post production of I Am Legend which hits theaters December 16, 2007.

Umm, woo-hoo? Seriously, I'm really not sure what to think of this. My first instinct is to say it sounds pretty lame, but ... I have no idea.

How in the world is this description considered to be a more modern take on Snow White? I am clueless to figure out what my opinion is on this film as well, but my gut reaction is that it will be a colossal failure.

I will say this though: We all complain about remakes and the lack of new ideas in Hollywood. This sure is one remake that will not be a senseless rehashing of material.

LOL, is this for real? I thought plot summary was a joke? It's a joke right? hahahaha, what is she going to use ninjitsu on the witch??

That description is not what I expected after the first paragraph said it was a"modern take" on the fairy tale.
I was expecting a romantic comedy about a sweet little rich girl played by Mandy Moore or Jessica Simpson whose family fortune is taken by an evil old witch-like crone, but who needs her dead in order to get it permanently. So the girl goes into hiding in the slums with seven curmudgeonly but lovable little guys who bring light and happiness to each other until the evil woman finds and poisons the girl.
All would seem lost until the handsome neighbor who - works a dead end job but still strives for his dream of being an artist/photographer/architect/something cool and has been gently flirting with the young girl - saves the day, gets the the crone jailed, the neighbor's dream job happens and he and the sweet rich girl and the seven curmudgeons live happily ever after.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

This is the one that Yuen Wo-Ping was set to direct a couple of years back. Jet Li and Natalie Portman are in talks to star.

They are already doing a remake of Snow White and its more like the one that Monkey just described.

I honestly thought Jarrod was messing with us and this was a joke. hahaha. This sounds crazy.

didn't some of the dwarfs smoke some type of pipe? isn't that going to compromise the no smoking rule with Disney?

what has the mouse been smoking to come up with this lunacy......

Anybody ever see the 10th Kingdom. Now that was a weird take on Snow White. Had a few good laughs though.

It's going to be a modern take, though the 19th century isn't so modern. Francis Lawrence was a music video director. I've seen the videos he's done. I didn't care much for them. Constantine was okay, but I might want to see I Am Legend, because I liked the Charleton Heston version. So, if I see the movie, it won't be because of the director, or even Will Smith, but for the movie itself.
