It looks like back problems is paving the way for John Frankenheimer to leave the project he's been developing for several years, the still unnamed prequel to THE EXORCIST.
It seems the physical therapy for a back surgery forced the departure. It is unknown what kind of blow this will level at the film, set to star Liam Neeson, Gabriel Mann and Billy Crawford and with a planned shooting date of September 1.
According to the producing company, Morgan Creek Productions, there are plans now to snag a new director and start shooting on schedule.
The film tells the story of Max Von Sydow's priest character from the original EXORCIST, and his days fighting demons in the Africa of the 1940s.
