Just a few weeks after director Justin Lin confirmed he had to bow out of Summit Entertainment's plan to re-imagine Highlander on the silver screen, the studio has announced they've found a new man to lead their production.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct Summit Entertainment’s re-imagination of the cult film co-financed by RCR Media Group. Summit’s Highlander is written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Neal H. Mortiz and Peter Davis will produce the project along with Enrique López Lavigne and Belen Atienza. RCR Media Group’s principles Rui Costa Reis and Eliad Josephson will executive produce the film. Justin Lin will also executive produce. Summit acquired the rights to remake the cult classic from Davis – Panzer Productions, Inc. in May of 2008. Production on the film is slated to begin spring of 2012.

In Highlander, after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his kind, a murderously brutal barbarian, who lusts for the Prize.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo directed 28 Weeks Later as well as Intruders, which is premiering at the Toronto Film Festival. His other credits include the Spanish language Intacto and Oscar® nominated short Linked.

Damm remakes again....maybe this time if they get an actual scotsman to act as a scotsman, it would be a good start (but i must say I loved Mr. Lambert in the original).

I always looked at Lambert's accent in the original as him having lived a long time in a lot of places, his accent was kind of a hodge-podge of accents from around the world.

I don't mind this being rebooted.  The original will always have a place in my collection.  If the reboot is great, that would be wonderful.  If it sucks, it won't ruin my opinion of the original.

but can't there only be one...

Man in a way im happy i did not like this director for Bioshock....i hope the movie gets made and that Guillermo del Toro directs it, it would be awsome. I just hope with the release of the new Bioshock game the interest of making a Bioshock movie come back to the studios.

I wish someone would remake the crappy Star Wars prequels

Part of me prefers they leave the movies and TV series alone, but I see the potential in this franchise, so here's hoping for something good.

That was my only problem Highlander, Lambert's lack of a Scotish accent. It became distracting. Even worse was Connery's Spanish accent. I'd like to see Antonio Banderas play the role of Ramierz.

The original was awesome and will continue to be so.  With the reboot they have the opportunity to franchise it properly so they don't need to end it with him being the last of his kind and making any sequels difficult and awkward.

This is a day of remake news. No fresh ideas, just lazy producers. At lease reimagion the concept... place it on another world... battle with different weapons... come on guys throw some gasoline on the fire here and make it a good one. Otherwise you might just as well go straight to video.

Ramirez was Egyptian, it doesn't really matter if he has a Spanish accent or not.

Horcrux, I thought JC Fresnadillo would've been fine for BioShock based on his work on 28 Weeks Later. Change the infected for Splicers and he already has that set for BioShock.
