Cast Bruce Campbell as the B-Movie actor "Vampire Hunter". Oh they did that already.
Roddy McDowall is going to be hard to replace.

Bring out the cross, the wooden stake and the onions because there's another vampire remake on the horizon. The Los Angeles Times reports that director Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) is what DreamWorks wants for their upcoming remake of Fright Night. Marti Noxon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") is in charge of the production, based on Tom Holland's original story.
Plot Concept: Centers on the story of a teenager who learns a vampire has moved into the house next door. The teen hires a local horror movie host to help slay the creature before it claims his girlfriend.

I never really saw a need to remake this, but with Marti Noxon working on this it could be good.
'Nuther unnecessary 80s remake. I loved the original. I think mainly because well, it was an original idea on the subject .
If Gillespie is really into the project and does his best to add some passion and flair to this, he could turn in a good rendition. But more than likely when all is said and done, when people bring to mind the movie Fright Night will images of this version or the original pop into their heads?
Just saw a commercial for the DVD release of The Stepfather remake. Did anybody see it? Did it have the pop culture effect that the original did at all?
Trollman, you're idea is excellent. Since they are making this film, casting Campbell or maybe Robert Englund would be a great idea.
Original idea? Try Rear Window with vampires.
And this does need a remake. One because it was a great movie - who wouldn't want another one? Two - having a remake isn't going to take away from the original. And if you think people that haven't seen yet - most people - want to see old movies you are freakng crazy.
I loved this film. I'll check out the remake. I just hope they get a actress hotter than Marcy Darcy to play the girlfriend.
Love the original, it's going to bve pretty hard to surpass it IMO but I am looking forward to the attempt.
I vaguely remember the sequel but vividly recall being very disappointed with it.
I think it would be fun to have Chris Sarandon the Orginal vamp in Fright Night play Peter Vincent. Or play one of the cops that Charlie goes to for help before he approaches Peter Vincent.
Loved the original, but i have no problem with a remake. Just give us a good remake, and the Lars movie was some funny/sad shit--so I'm hopeful.
Agreed MrJawbreaking... most people nowadays under 25 haven't seen too many of these movies. Partially because they can't watch the bad effects compared to movies nowadays. The remakes are not for those of us who loved the original anyways. Its for the next generation of viewers. Time to let the reigns go boys...
I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Fright Night. It has to be one of my best teen vs Vampire movies out there. I seen part 2 a long time ago, but I don't remember it too much. I want to see part 2 again to refresh my memory but sadly I cant find it on DVD. They better not mess this up. But who can replace the GREAT PETER VINCENT VAMPIRE KILLER? LOL :)
