They should give this another reboot but this time go to cable like HBO.

Only heard of the series (at first) because of the X-Files.

Unfortunately, a remake/reboot is already planned. Johnny Depp is attached (you can find this info in an archived Clever Movies report from 2011 on Youtube).

Please God, no!

I was just thinking about this show the other day.  I've been rewatching Justice League Unlimited, and the episode with Galatea has a cameo by Kolchak.  He's in a bar, trying to get information from another reporter.

The problem with the reboot wasn't that it focused too much on Kolchak, per se, but that the character wasn't Kolchak, it was Fox Mulder-as-reporter, with his quest for the truth driven by having lost a loved one to mysterious forces.  That wasn't Kolchak.  He didn't seek out the weird, he just kept running across it by accident, and his combination of integrity, stubbornness, and his inherent disdain for authority kept him from simply papering it over when it happened.

fenngibbon...true but my point was that the show revolved around that personal aspect.  In the original, we knew nothing about Kolchak's personal life.

The original movie was so awesome.  With social media the way it is today, would be interesting to see someone try to tackle a re-make of sorts.  Doesn't have to be cable; network t.v. still a good place for this type of show, if done right. Very amusing to see a reporter "being run out of town."  Even if it could happen in the early 1970s, no chance of that today.

While I enjoyed the series, thought it might be better to have done once-a-year movie-of-the-week.  Might have suited the show better and gave us better quality.

the second oldest memory I have, after falling out of my crib at 11 months (yes, I remember that far!) is seeing the scene at 1:03:15 when my parents watched this. My first introduction to vampires at 2 years old. A year later, my folks drove  by a theater showing the play  Dracula I think, that had a banner of a bloody, fangy face and torches burned outside, which connected with me again that face with fangs. Its amazing what can trigger a reaction with you so young when you first get exposed to a genre!

Used to love this show growing up. I think it used to be on Friday nights and my friends would stay over and watch it and we would be freaked out all night. That was a creepy show for a 8 year old.

If it's not Darren McGavin playing Kolchak then don't bother. I tried watching the reboot and it sucked. It didn't have the same mysterious fun that the orginal one had.

What the reboot had was the token hipster, a black person, a strong female character, the token dark, humorless character (who was sadly Kolchak) and the other nonsense that Hollywood thinks a show needs.

Unless the reboot is going to be very similar to the original one, then I don't want to see it. And hearing that Johnny Depp maybe attached to play Kolchak doesn't exactly fill me with great excitement.
