Orphaned at a young age, high school student Tohru Honda has experienced hardship, loneliness, and even homelessness, until one day, she's invited to live at the mysterious Sohma household where family members occasionally transform into animals!
With "Fruits Basket Original Soundtrack - Memory for You," fans and newcomers alike will be addictively drawn into the gentle, soft vocals found in "For Fruits Basket" (opening song), "Teru-Teru-Momiji" and "A Small Prayer" (ending song), while indulging in the other 25 affectionately crafted and cheerful instrumental tracks that round out this CD.The Review!
4 out of 5
Music found in the Fruits Baskets series.
This CD comes with an 8-page insert. The first page is a song title listing. Up next is A character introduction page. Then a paragraph from Jun Abe on the music used. Followed by small pictures of scenes from the series. Up next is another paragraph from the composer, this time from Seiji Muto. With more pictures to follow. The next two pages show scenes from the show, as well as English and Japanese lyrics for the first vocal track. Up next is a page with the English and Japanese lyrics tot he final vocal song. And finally a page of credits for the CD as well as the show.
Ritsuko Okazaki who both wrote and sang the two vocal tracks on this CD has set up the scene for the music to follow a whimsical jaunt through a musical wonderland. Okazaki, who is famous for works found in Jubei-chan and Love Hina, has created a world in these two songs that one could almost see following the white rabbit down its rabbit hole.
And following the theme that the first song has set, the instrumentals follow up with a great sound. The instrumentals were composed and produced by Seiji Muto and Jun Abe, composers associated with GRRRL Power, and this one is a good example of their outstanding composing. I was put in mind of walking through an amusement park with this one. The fantastical, joyful sounds that remind you of your childhood are very present in this CD. And like an amusement park divided into different sections, the music plays along with this theme too, having a rock section, a traditional section, and even a calypso beat in one song. The CD on a whole is a joy to listen to and it keeps you young, or at least young at heart just to hear it.
I'd have to say definitely what I would want following me from ride to ride.
