Just a few days after showing off some screenshots from John Carter, Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar have unleashed the first full trailer for their adaptation of the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs series. Watch it in the video player down below and sound off with your opinions. The fantasy adventure will star Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Willem Dafoe, Thomas Hayden Church, Polly Walker and Bryan Cranston. Veteran Pixar director Andrew Stanton led behind the camera, based on a screenplay he wrote with fellow writers Mark Andrews and Michael Chabon.

Plot Concept: A sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs and tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

John Carter flies into 3D/2D/IMAX theaters on March 9, 2012.

Thanks to lusiphur for the submission.

Damn I was just commenting about this on another thread.

I am so PUMPED for this. This was a hair behind Avengers for 2012 but I have to say they're neck and neck. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning again. This is just what I adore about movies, fantasy/action/sci/fi. I'm giddy right now.JUST AWESOME

I'm praying this a huge hit for the selfish reason that I want more

This trailer got me more intrigued about it so, might check it out.

That trailer was pretty darn good.  Definitely makes me more excited to see this.

Of course, I was also excited after watching the first trailer for Phantom Menace, so....

Looking forward to it. I really like the music choices they are using. The first teaser had Peter Gabriel and this trailer uses Led Zepplin. I would like it if they used similar music style  for the actual movie soundtrack.

Still, my worry is that the general public will see this and think "Oh, another one of these big fantasy films like Prince of Persia or Immortals...SEEN IT!"

Maybe I'm the only one, but this trailer left me cold. But that's Disney for you.

I don't know dick about the John Carter story or literature, but this looks pretty sick.  I'll probably check it out.

This looks pretty good to me too. I'll be there opening weekend. It'll be cool seeing the airship battle on the big screen.

Looks nice, will see it when it comes. Question: How the hell an he jump like that is there no gravity on Mars or those are the new Jordan Boots ????

lusiphur 12/1/2011 10:28:15 AM

There is less gravity on Mars (at least in the books), so the super jumps are straight out of Burroughs.

Also, for those complaining (like it was) about the blue skies on Mars, I've been reminded that in the books, the sky was blue and not red.
