FUNimation Talks More Dance in the Vampire Bund

FUNimation has waited a few days since the original announcement and has put out a new statement to Anime News Network regarding the controversial edits made to Dance in the Vampire Bund:

"In the days since we announced the acquisition of the anime "Dance in the Vampire Bund," we have been following the varied responses from within the anime community to our decision to edit specific scenes from its streaming and later home entertainment release.

First, out of concern for our distribution partners and advertisers, we will continue to make minor edits to the episodes which are available via free streaming and television broadcast due to the readily accessible nature of these platforms. We will be careful to keep such edits to a minimum.

However, FUNimation is - as always - committed to bringing the best anime content to the United States in its unedited form on home video. Therefore, we are evaluating the release of the series in unedited and uncensored form for home video. Since only 7 episodes have broadcast in Japan, final determination must be reserved until all episodes can be reviewed to ensure compliance with current U.S. law."

FUNimation's original statement after airing the first episodes can be found HERE while our follow-up piece on it can be found HERE. Discussion on the subject since it was first announced can be found HERE.

What I was hoping would happen. I'm all for editing the streams. But for purchase on a physical format, i definitley want at least an option to choose. I assumed we wouldnt get physical release details until after the show finishes airing completely, so that's expected too. Very good news indeed.

FuNimation needs to contract with better dubbing services, and do some editing to control the flow and rhythm of scenes involving lengthy, wordy, and poorly constructed and conceptualized visions of life outside of Japan. (There's a lot of anime, most of it is very bad. It's as if it were created by sexually repressed creepy 30 year olds pretending to be intellectual 20 year olds, but are mentally and emotionally stuck at 12)

Geez, I know most anime voice over artists don't get paid much, but geesh, there have got to better voice actors. Most of the VOAs on this side of the ocean are just plain awful, demonstrating a clear lack of talent or knowledge of the stories and related subject matter offered to them!

... AND another thing stop hiring the same people over and over again. It's obnoxious, but I understand why.

This is good news- thinking back about it I realized Funimation did the same thing with Afro samurai- releasing a edited and unedited versions. This can work for them. Even with the two versions Afro Became on of their best seller the year it was put out.

@Muenster- I can understand your frustration with the whole voice acting thing. Even I realize that something like this is a lost art and not many people are willing to tackle it. We have to take the good with the bad- however we can at least reconginze the good when we hear it. One of the best voice actors I have heard in the past few years is Greg Ayers. The other one was ( I can't remember her name right now) was the woman who did the voice of Foxy Love for the Drawn Together Series. I also think she was the same one who voiced number 5 in the Kids next door cartoon. I'm not sure if she has done any anime but would like to see it happen

This is much better news...They shouldn't be stopping viewers from watching this series and after all, it's not aimed at teen audiences so clearly this is something 15 audiences should be watching. I'll be happy if the un-cut is allowed through.
