Without Bryan Singer on board to give it fuel, the much heralded revival of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA may be stalled on the launch pad.
In recent weeks, word got out that Bryan Singer's work on the coming X-MEN 2 production had required all his time, forcing him to step back from directing the pilot film for a revived BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Now, that move may well have doomed the whole project.
Word has it that there had been some rumblings of discontent between arms of the Fox entertainment empire. Fox Broadcasting was thrilled to have Singer helming the pilot, which would be aired on the Fox network, and arranged to have the project shot in Vancouver in early 2002 with an eye towards the following May. But the movie studio side wanted the director focusing on the X-MEN sequel.
When it became obvious that Singer would be unable to helm GALACTICA for the immediate future, Fox Broadcasting starting having some doubts about the project. Without Singer, Fox pulled out leaving Studios USA to shoulder the pilot's pricey budget alone.
Still, while Fox was involved, an attempt was made to bring helmer Nicholas Meyer (STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN) on board the project in a move to keep it rolling. Apparently, it failed, with GALACTICA's expensive future now looking very questionable.
However, there is still a small shred of hope. Variety reports that Singer and USA may be discussing ramping the project up after the helmer wraps X-MEN 2, though neither party is said to be willing to talk about it.
