What They Say
When Milfeulle suddenly falls out of contact with the Rune Angel Troupe, it's up to them to get to the bottom of things, but they've got problems of their own. Nano-Nano and Brave Heart have been stolen by a treasure hunter named Anise!
As if that weren't enough, things have grown tense aboard the Luxiole, as Apricot and Kazuya's relationship hits a rocky patch. And when a disturbing message arrives from an old friend, it's time for the Angels to work together like never before!
The Review
Now that introductions of the cast and crew of Galaxy Angel II are out of the way, here comes the meat of the series. Which is a surprisingly enjoyable, although typical, love triangle between Kazuya, Apricot and Tequila/Kahlua. That's really where most of the entertainment in this volume comes from, so if you were expecting high-flying actionthink again. What you do get is a very entertaining romantic comedy set against a fairly epic, impending galactic war backdrop.
So yes, Galaxy Angel II retains its focus on characters first and story second. That's typical of Galaxy Angel though, and something most long-time fans have come to accept. The character interaction is really the central focus, which is, I am happy to say, quite excellent. With Kazuya and Apricot having such weak personalities, I was not expecting much in the way of fireworks. Tequila really adds a shot in the arm there, and manages to create a highly volatile situation aboard the Luxiole, although in more of an "awkward silence, shuffling feet" manner than, say, the mayhem of a barroom brawl.
The rest of the crew has their hands full with Anise, the former "treasure hunter" who has been drafted by Mint to be a full-time member of the new Galaxy Angel squad. Nano-Nano is infatuated with her, and she causes Takuya several kinds of headaches, aside from just not being a team player. She has some nice interactions with Kazuya as well, and as clich as it may be, adds the requisite amount of brash aggression needed in an ensemble cast.
What can you expect from this volume of Galaxy Angel II? A lot of friction between characters, a lot of romantic comedy elements, love triangles, some dolphins, and even an act of apparent betrayal, with one hell of a cliffhanger ending. Where the main storyline will go from here is anyone's guess, and while I still can't quite believe it will take the center stage, there's enough character and relationship action to keep me completely satisfied. Hopefully, fans of the series will feel the same way.
