Beginning in February, Nintendo's best-selling portable handheld system, the Game Boy Advance, will have it's price lowered to $79.95.
The system launched with a $99.95 price tag last year in June, and since then has sold almost 5 million units of hardware in North America alone, and accounted for more than 20 percent of the hardware units sold last year. The year 2001 was the best year for video games yet, as the industry pulled in close to $9.4 billion.
"The new price point truly positions Game Boy Advance as a video game system for the mass market," says Peter Main, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America Inc. "Coupled with an explosive amount of incredible software scheduled for the year, Game Boy Advance is positioned to become the best-selling video game hardware system of all time."
More than 200 games are scheduled to be out this year for the Game Boy Advance.
