Doesn't seem like the Mance I had in my mind, not to say he won't be a good choice though. I think the other guy mentioned, James Purefoy is closer to what I imagined.
Dominic West from The Wire was offered a part believed to be Mance but turned it down as he didn't want to have to spend so much time away from his family. That would have been really awesome casting, but alas it was not meant to be.
