Scoop Feedback:

January 17, 2002... It looks like GARFIELD the cat is going to spring from the funny pages to the big screen as a CGI character in a live action version of his strip.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, GARFIELD will be written by Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow of TOY STORY fame. The storyline will reportedly center on the bad blood between Odie and Garfield, which has fueled a lot of the comedy for the 24 year old comic strip.

No word on a release date. [The Hollywood Reporter.]

July 11, 2003... WILL & GRACE star Debra Messing will provide the feline voice for GARFIELD's girlfriend, Arlene, in the movie version of the comic strip. Bill Murrary voices the orange fat cat while Breckin Meyer plays Jon, Garfield's owner.

In Jon Davis' comic strip, Arlene was a pink kitty who had a sarcastic relationship with Garfield. The movie is due out in theaters next summer. [Variety.]

January 2, 2004... Over at JoBlo, the website has landed two never-before-seen images from next summer's GARFIELD movie, both showing the Bill Murray-voiced cat and one including Jennifer Love Hewitt (who plays veternarian Liz Sherman.)

That's one big cat. Check out the size of Garfield by clicking the image above and then heading over to JoBlo to see kitty in the director's chair.

And if you haven't seen the film's teaser trailer, it's available for download here.
