Well, this bit of casting news is coming out of left field from the Hollywood Reporter. Executive producer, Joel Surnow, who jokingly describes himself as a "right wing nut job" has hired on actress/outspoken liberal, Janeane Garofalo, to star in the coming season of 24. She will be playing a government agent sent to investigate the crisis befalling Jack Bauer and company. She joins the only other new casting, Cherry Jones (Signs), who was tapped to play the new U.S President.

The show itself hasn't began production yet due to 2 delays. First delay was caused by Fox nixing an "Set in Africa" storyline and the 2nd delay was Imagine Entertainment demanding to have the full season of scripts done before one scene is shot. Production will begin September 10.

Someone in Hollywood take note...please quit giving this lady jobs. She is not funny, nor is she entertaining to watch. Her butch persona grew old after the last job Stiller gave her. Enough. Let her go save the ozone, seals or take a stand against shaving her legs.

Oh well she will probably only be in certain episodes and might eventually be killed off so I really don't care. I have never liked Garafalo except for her role in Mystery Men but that was before she became so obnoxious. Her career now is pretty much dead anyway so I bet she is just glad to find work.

akobus is probably right - Garofalo's character will probably be killed off at some point during the season, which will make having her on the show worth it. I'm not a fan of her act or political views either so maybe this is Surnow's way of attacking the left.

What are they thinking? The producers have to know they need to come up big if they are to entice viewers back to the show. After the fiasco that last season turned out to be you’d think they’d opt not to hire an actor that will immediately polarize the potential audience.

What an unexpected coup. She will be great. And I can't wait for her showdown with Cloe (hoping there is one, anyway).

While i don't agree with a lot of her poitical views, I've always enjoyed her work.

If they use CTU, the teen, and the President/staff once again...the show will be officially over. They need something fresh. Do they even acknowledge the fans that have kept the show alive? I mean, it seems for the last two seasons, everyone has said "just give us Jack". Have him dealing with a much more personal crisis. Perhaps, some of the open ended plot lines come home to roost and he is struggling to stay alive. Skip the terrorists and the bombs. Give us a good, solid Jack story. Last year was just barely a step away from being a daytime soap. BTW, is it just me, or do you get the impression that Gorofao smells of hemp cigerettes and stinky sandled feet? Has she ever officially come out of the closet? Doesn't matter as long as the series gets back to what made it great in the first place. Well, even during its great moments, they could have lost Kim.

I'm a total left wing liberal. But, I'll see a Bruce Willis movie or watch a Law and Order (with Fred Thomson) in a heart beat. Why? Because I'm mature enough not to judge someone's talent or work based on his or her political beliefs. It's called being a thinking reasoning adult. Some of you "righties" (and some of my "lefties") should try it. Grow up please. We are all Americans. Just a thought

Garofalo is smart, a good actress and actually has a social conscience, unlike many in Hollywood. She stuck her neck out to criticize the war LONG before it became fashionable, or even safe. She actually speaks her mind, instead of hiding in fear for offending people and ruining her career, and unlike a lot of people who speak their mind, she has thought behind what she says. If it's a choice between Garofalo and Anne Coulter, Garofalo wins in the thinking department every time. I wasn't a huge fan of her character on West Wing, but she definitely can do a good job and add something to the show.
