A Maniacal salute to Dennis Hopeless and Kevin Mellon who have sold the film rights to their super-cool indie comic 'Gearhead'. Today's Variety reports that the pair have set the project up with Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Motion Pictures, the folks behind 'The Incredible Hulk' and 'Punisher War Zone'.
The book, published by Arcana Comics, tells the story of future world where superheroes preside over pristine mega-cities while villains and other folks who don't like everything so clean inhabit the vast wastelands in between. The heroine, Shelby Cooper, spends her days tuning up her illegal hot rod (the combustion engine has been outlawed), racing the highways and scamming parts...that is until she gets caught up in a conspiracy that could topple the tyrannical super-leaders.
Hurd is producing the film.
Regular readers may recall that 'Gearhead' had been previously set up with an independent production company in Canada a few years back. However, that development effort sputtered out, clearing the way for the property to move to Hollwyood
And old-school Comics2Film readers should a special sense of pride as Mr. Hopeless used to haunt the message boards as a regular commenter not so many years ago. Now he's making the funny books and the movies but we can say, "we knew him when..."
This is what happens when your spend time on the internet, kids.
Big time salute to those guys for making their dreams come true!
