An independent research group cites the hit Xbox 360 game Gears of War as the cause of a recent surge in XBox Live use.
Since the games release, XBL use is up by 80% and XBL Gold subscriptions, which are required for online play, have risen by over 50%. Gears of War was released in mid-November and has already sold more than 1 million copies.
"The effect Gears of War and other games are having on networks indicates to service providers that online gaming is not just a craze," said Sandvine CEO Dave Caputo.
