I hate waiting for movies to hit the cheaper theaters, but such is the case when one has few quatloos to his name.

Rob - Great article.  I love the Geek life.  I don't think I've ever read a GofG comic book, and you're right, that is probably a godo thing.  Will probably get into them after tonight.   :-)

You haven't seen Amazing Spiderman 2?  Well, you're not missing much.  Wait for Netflix.

This old scifi show called Farscape?  Really, it's not that old.  Or it doesn't seem that way.  I watched a few episodes today and it hasn't aged at all.

If Guardians of the Galaxy is like Farscape I definitely have to see it!

Karas1, the series is GREAT! I'll post my interview with the leads on your facebook page. If you have Netlfix all of it is there!

You guys call yourself geeks?  You need only read the marvel annihilation stories and you could have a great introduction to the guardians. Drax was brought in as a character in annihilation and in the sequel annihilation conquest they formed the new guardians you see in the film. The galactic side of marvel is awesome and has a rich history/mythology all it's own going back to the lee/kirby days. Anyone see the Celestial as the collector was telling the history of the infinity gems. Anyway in 2004-05 marvel decided that the galactic side of the comics weren't getting any love hence the annihilation story which brought together most of the main characters. Ronin, silver surfer, drax, etc. It is worth checking out, and now thanks also in part to thanos at the end of avengers the marvel galactic is getting some much needed respect in the comics.

Robert, I'd love to see your Farscape interview.

I saw GotG and I totally see the Farscape comparisons.  The outlaw culture portrayed in several parts of the movie had a very Farscape vibe.  And Peter Quill seemed a whole lot like John Crichton, always spouting pop culture refrences that nobody on that side of the galaxy would understand.

It was a REALLY fun film.

ElBaz13 8/3/2014 7:23:14 PM

Yes, this movie is a 'ripoff' of Farscape.

But, did you know Farscape is a ripoff of the original Guardians of the Galaxy? The creators of Farscape took elements of Blake's 7, Buck Rogers and the 1969 Guardians.

So, what comes around, goes around.

karas1 8/3/2014 8:45:52 PM

I didn't say it was a ripoff.  I said it had a similar vibe.  That's not the same thing.

Sorry Kara, I wasn't taking a jab at you. I've been on a lot of geek sites and so many Farscape fanboys blasting GotG for ripping off their precious source material. I'm just annoyed at them saying the same thing over and over.
