Oh, and ditto what jedibanner said about the Ms Marvel on the left.  Wow.  Simply wow.  (I also really dig the Lady Rocketeer).

I just hope one day that someone on this site writes an article about too many hot women keep dressing up like Witchblade... or Vampirella... or Wonder Woman... or...

Emulating Return of the Jedi's Slave Leia costume will never go out of style.  It's an iconic outfit, in the same league as Marilyn Monroe's white dress from Seven Year Itch, Scarlett O'Hara's dress made from the curtains in Gone with the Wind, Dorothy's plain blue dress from The Wizard of Oz, or Audrey Hepburn's black dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's.  The classics never go out of style or permanently drop in popularity.

I have no beef with the Slave Leia cosume.  My Suggestion is Molotov Cocktease & Dr. Girlfriend/Dr. Mrs. The Monarch!

Anyone who deems a beautiful women in a gold slave bikini is a problem, has quite possibly the most awesome life in the world.

Yet another reason why I’m really digging your new Geek Life column, Bob. You bring up an interesting question that the hardcore con and genre fanatic can debate from within the sidelines of the geek community. And I’m not even sure if I can agree with your point here.

I’m not sure if you’re just a bit jaded here because you’re the photo-god for us these past few years at just about every major Con event. By being there with the camera in hand year in and year out at all these events, you may be able to agree with the logic that dressing up as Slave Leia is “so over” but I’m not sure if that holds true for me or even for some of the hardcore geeks out there.

I mean, everyone raise their hands…If your woman comes to bed dressed up like she belongs in Jabba’s harem, are you responding with “Oh hon, that just won’t work. Go put on something more original please?”

No…I didn’t think so.

On the opposite side of the coin, I do agree with you in that being original is sometimes better for some photo action. Or perhaps it separates the average female geek in training newbie from those ladies who could beat you 9 out of 10 times on specific genre trivia games. Or more to your point, a Star Wars trivia contest of knowledge.

I can’t remember if it was it which Con it was but I remember you sending me a ton of cosplay photos to publish here and there must have been 10 different versions of the Slave Leia variety. A day later, you sent me one with a young lady dressing up as Mara Jade.

I remember saying So what after the fifth Slave Leia photo and then Yes! to the one dressing up as Mara Jade. That’s a woman who knows a bit more than the average female SW fan in that she’s tackling a character that was never a part of the movies. It's a character that has grown a following strictly from the Expanded Universe. In a sense that separates the female genre expert from the female dressing up solely to make their geeky male opposite happy (ala Jennifer Aniston in the Friends episode).

well, guess what? If slave leia's dead as cosplay, then WE ALL need to turn in our geek cards, and just tell Lucas that we never liked his Star Wars saga under any circumstances, and we were complete idiots for telling our parents when we were younger to take us, beggin and screamin til we saw them. further more, it seems that you're picking on the wrong people who choose to dress up as slave leia, since in one of the pics you chose to highlight, a good friend of mine was in it named Victoria Cosplay, and you're suggesting she give it up? are you serious about that? she enjoys wearing that costume, so get real man, slave leia, in any incarnation will always be a cosplay mainstay for many years to come, no matter what you, the writer, or anyone else believes otherwise, whether its someone sexy who does it, or someone else who just wanted to do it for fun. it's part of our pop culture, which wont go away. EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw, as to power girl, i also know one of the ones who you added in this article, so you better not get on her bad side, cause im sure thatll be your next atrget for what shouldnt be worn for cosplay..... x-p

This thing is very unreliable about which comments I may or may not post. Some appear and some don't. Rob, you still haven't explained how you knew I was talking about Victoria when the picture I referenced contained two Slave Leias. Furthermore, when Victoria herself came to this site to comment in her own defense, she found that her email has been blocked and she is pre-emptively banned from commenting. I guess you knew she'd say something you didn't like, so you made sure she couldn't say it at all. Bad form, sir, bad form.

If you've got the right look for Leia go for it, but originality is always more memorable.  Who wants to be one in a dozen people in the same duds?

I looove the Lady Rocketeer!  The Powergirl on the right is adorable.  They're both curvy & sexy but she has a beautiful smile.  The sex appeal isn't as important as the imagination or personality.  A girl in an outfit is sexier if she's actually a fan of the character she's portraying.

Slave Leia isn't "over" but she deserves a rest.
