General Zod in SUPERMAN sequel?

By Karl Schneider     July 17, 2006

Scooper Daniel wrote me from the UK premiere of SUPERMAN RETURNS with a bit of speculation on the possible sequel.

Daniel writes, "I was lucky enough to attend the UK premiere of Superman Returns on Thursday night.

"Before the film the cast all said a few words. When it was Singers turn (last) he invited his writing partners to come up. One of them walked up to the mike and brought attention to what was written on the T-shirt he was wearing "Kneel before Zod".

"If this is what they are thinking, Zod Returns would make a cool sequel."

Indeed it would. Nothing official to report, but always fun to speculate.

This realy is the lamest news report ever. On that one I think even Renderman 72 would agree.

Is it just me or are DC's villians mostly lame, and though for obvious reasons, so cartoonish. I just think Marvels are cooler. That's why I never read DC, other than Dark Knight. Oh and I did live when Superman and Batman fought.

I do not think Singer will bring back Zod. I think his exploration of Sups as a dad will be the main story arc of a 3 movie package. Movie 1: sups discovers he is a dad. Movie 2: Sups tries being dad to rebelious superpwrd kid. Movie 3: Sups wins back son. Look at the material Sup Returns set us up for. There is huge 'moon' of kryptonite floating near Earth w/his crystals on it as well as Sups blood from his fingers. This could be precursor to either brainiac or creation of Doomsday. Also, Luthor is aware of Sups son. What better way to get back at Sups than turn his son against him. The only other being alive who can rival Supermans pwr.

Hey, like NHL hockey, I don't care if no one likes Superman Returns or exploring the return of Zod. I like it and a weird way, I'm glad others really don't. It's kind of cool to think of it as Singer making a $200 million film ... FOR ME! I'M AWESOME! He made SR for ME! I was cautiously opptimistic going into the movie but ALOT of elements had me very worried. After I saw it I loved it and accepted whole heartedly the changes (some out of necessity, other artisticly). After sleeping on it and thinking it through the next day I loved it more, and am going again with my wife (when we can find a sitter). As to Zod .... well, you can keep your Darkseids and Doomsdays (folks who want a bang 'em up Doomsday/Supes fight are the same ones who were clamoring for Venom in Spidey 3 ... screw new 90's villians, gimme the classic that these fables were built on). I want Zod, and this dumb speculation of an "article" aside, it has sounded for awhile that Singer is determined to get Zod in eventually. Just like every Batman villian is always less cool and perfect than the Joker, Luthor and Zod are the only real perfect villians for Supes in his mythos, so why trot out a minor leaguer? That's where Supes has Batman beat ... you can keep dealing with his A-List bad guys while Batman seems dependent on trotting out a fresh villian each movie. SCREW YOU SUCKA MCs AND KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!! WORD TO YOUR KRYPTON!

Well, turning my attention away, for the briefest, from the turmoil in the middle east to offer an even more brief commentary. One thing that can be noted, I was fascinated by many scenes but not with the story itself, the scenes that involve reflecting Kal-el's power and power of flight and his fantastically, enigmatic molecular nature that twists the understanding and laws of physics, especially in regards to a living being who is endowed with these molecular anomalies (as it might be regarded), we happen to share the same physical features. I'll see the last half of the movie later on.
