General Zod in SUPERMAN sequel?

By: Karl Schneider
Date: Monday, July 17, 2006

Scooper Daniel wrote me from the UK premiere of SUPERMAN RETURNS with a bit of speculation on the possible sequel.

Daniel writes, "I was lucky enough to attend the UK premiere of Superman Returns on Thursday night.

"Before the film the cast all said a few words. When it was Singers turn (last) he invited his writing partners to come up. One of them walked up to the mike and brought attention to what was written on the T-shirt he was wearing "Kneel before Zod".

"If this is what they are thinking, Zod Returns would make a cool sequel."

Indeed it would. Nothing official to report, but always fun to speculate.

Are you fuqing kidding me?!?!? Who writes this crap?

'Hey guys! I overheard no one in particular say that he heard a joke about Superman screwing Wonderwoman (the invisible man is involved too) so it must be part of the next movie! It's not confirmed, plausible or likely. But I have nothing else to write about and I need Cinescape to give me a paycheque!!'

Let's try and find a better source than some moron's t-shirt next time.

I've heard that Bryan Singer wanted Jude Law to play Zod in "Superman Returns." This is information that is posted at the IMDb, but they claimed that when Law turned down the role, Zod was written out of the movie altogether. I wonder what kind of movie "Returns" would have been had Law accepted? Also, why did Law turn down the role? Would he ever be willing to play this character?

Ok, what are they thinking? Write a damn original Superman story. Stop rehashing the first two films. I've seen those. What they need to do is a Superman reboot. Lose the kid and the boyfriend. Why Zod, Zod, Zod? Superman has a great rogue's gallery: Brainiac, Doomsday, Mxylptnk, Bizzarro, and Darkseid to name a few. Ugh. I gave S.R. a 4/10 on imdb.com, and I meant it. It's been a while sice I've been so upset with a film. I like Singer; the Xmen's were great, Usual Suspects--- one of my faves... but Supe was sorely lacking. It needed the Batman Begins treatment.

No, no, NO! Can we focus on NEW villains for the next Superman movie? Why must they tread old grounds? Okay, I'm not complaining about Lex Luthor. I loved his re-entry into Superman Returns, as I did Superman's, but please, introduce another villain for the next movie. There are plenty to choose from. As it is, in the long-since defunct Superman Lives movie, they were going to feature Braniac and Doomsday as the villains of that story. Come on! We've got Mr. Mxyzptlk, Mongul, Metallo, Bizarro, Darkseid, Livewire, and Parasite, just to name a few. Consider some of these as potential enemies for the new Superman movie. Not General Zod.

I agree. Terence Stamp did a great job at Zod and I don't want my admiration for that role tarnished or tainted by somebody's idea of a remake, rebirth, reunion, return, or renewel. Leave it be and let's move on to the next villain.

Shogunmaster, you got it bang on. WTH wrong with this site? Do you really think this is newsworthy? Talk about looking too deep into things - this is pathetic.
