Genre Film Festivals Hit the Windy City
By: John ThonenDate: Saturday, June 01, 2002
The windy city of Chicago will play host to several genre oriented film festivals in June, starting with the, appropriately named Chicago Fantastic Film Festival. The fest runs Saturday and Sunday, June, 1st and 2nd at the city's historic Gateway Theatre. The fest features an eclectic mix of guests including award winning artist Basil Gogos, actress Joanna (BLADE RUNNER, GHOSTS OF MARS) Cassidy, Hammer Studios femme fatale Ingrid (VAMPIRE LOVERS) Pitt, film director Stuart (RE-ANIMATOR) Gordon who will be premiering his latest effort, DAGON - and former child star Billy (DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL) Gray. Films being screened will include DAGON, DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, ROGER RABBIT, VAMPIRE LOVERS and the amazing BBC documentary on the making of BLADE RUNNER. A dealer room will also be present. Visit the fest's website at www.cf3fest.com/index2.html for more details.
The stardust will have barely settled from CF3 when the Monsters Among Us #2 convention starts June 8th and 9th. The show is heavily geared to the productions of J.R. Bookwalter's Tempe Video and will feature actor David (AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON) Naughton and Scream Queen Brinke Stevens as the show's headliners, along with appearances by screenwriter/director Matthew Jason Walsh, actor Glen (you'll know him when you see him) Shadix, actress Linda Harrison from the original PLANET OF THE APES, Tempe performer Jeff Dylan Graham and Tempe jack-of-all-trades Jeff Sisson. Numerous Tempe productions will be screened and Walsh will probably discuss his upcoming KINGDOM OF THE VAMPIRES and his recent writing work for David DeCoteau, including the video hits THE BROTHERHOOD and BROTHERHOOD 2: YOUNG WARLOCKS. The show will take place at the Holiday Inn near O'Hare Airport and will also feature a model building contest and dealer's room.
