The Review!
In anticipation of the release of Geobreeders 2, I decided to give you my thoughts of the first OVA release.

Audio: The sound comes across well here with no dropouts occurring during the episodes.

Video: The video throughout the disc is crisp and clear. A top-notch transfer from CPM.

Packaging: The front cover has the image of all of the women that work for Kagura Total Security posing for the camera. The back cover provides a brief summary of the show, also listed on the back is a listing of what features are included on the disk and what the DVD-ROM features are.

Menus: Static images that offer quick access between menus.

Extras: Having a DVD-ROM I was able to check out the DVD-ROM features. There's a fair bit of features here, but most of the extras I found to be uninteresting. The only extra I enjoyed here was the storyboard to animation conversion. The gallery on the DVD-ROM features about 35 pieces of screen caps from the show and a few covers from the manga. Also included on the DVD-ROM are 3 comparisons of the storyboard to animation, which I found to be intriguing. The scripts of the three episodes are also listed here. The last extra on the DVD-ROM are samples taken of the Geobreeders manga.

Content

This OVA contains three episodes.

Episode One starts of with one member of Kagura total security getting a contract confirmed. Once the contract has been confirmed, the rest of the crew of Kagura Total Security team commences an attack on an atomic power plant, where a phantom cat is hiding. As this show contains eechi humor, things don't go to plan for Kagura as they ended up retreating upon seeing a tank driven by phantom cats. Soon after this incident, Kagura is given a new case and it's up to Taba and Takami to go and stop a phantom cat in a shopping complex. During the fight against the phantom cat in the shopping complex, we are given a bit of background knowledge of what phantom cats are about. Phantom cats are basically a spirit that are made up of animated magnetic data which they are cable of manipulating. The only way to capture a phantom cat is to use a talisman. A talisman is basically a thin strip of paper with watermarks of a triangle inside a circle that connects to a computer cable. Once the cable is connected to the mini-computer, by pressing delete on the mini-computer will capture the phantom cat and freeze them on disc. During the sequence of capturing the phantom cat in the shopping complex you might want to pay close attention of the advertisements plastered against the wall of the shopping complex, as it advertises the Geobreeders movie. After capturing the phantom cat we return to Kagura Total Security headquarters where Taba has lost 9 talismans and has to find them otherwise he doesn't get paid. So Taba goes off to find the missing tailments that he has lost. As soon as Taba leaves headquarters, the building comes under attack by vegetable men who end up kidnapping Maya.

Episode Two starts off with Taba looking for the missing talismans that he has lost, but he ends up meeting a hound officer who has some information for him. While Taba goes off to talk to the Hound officer, Crimson Shooting Star is at a gun shop getting a very, very big gun built. During the conversation with Tabu and the Hound officer we learn that Hound and Kaguira weren't the only groups present at the shopping complex incident, with a mysterious group also being present. Taba figures out that this group must have the missing talismans that he is looking for. We also learn that a Russian cargo ship called the Sakhalin that is stranded 28 miles off Ayagane Bay has something to do with this mysterious group. After speaking to the Hound officer, Tabu comes back to Kaguria total security headquarters only to find out that Maya has been kidnapped. They quickly decided to go off and investigate the mysterious ship and rescue Maya. The next scene deals with Maya's kidnapers, in which they want Maya to reveal the transport route that Nikolai (another ship) is taking. Maya refuses to tell them this information and her captive's resort to other methods to get the information from Maya. After trying to get the information from Maya, she makes her escape and manages to get to a computer console and tries desperately to contact her friends. However the computer console is shielded from her and she ends up being recaptured. While this is happening, Taba and two members of Kagura board the Sakhalin. Upon boarding the ship they conduct a search of the ship, only to discover it to be full of phantom cats. While the phantom cats are busy fighting Kagura, the crew aboard the ship set off a timed bomb that will destroy the ship in ten minutes. After the bomb goes off, the episode ends after the aftermath of the explosion with the team members of Kagura pondering what to do next.

The final episode opens in a diner with all the members of Kagura thinking about what their next move is going to be. We then jump to where Maya is being held, where she reveals to her captives the information of the transport route that Nikolai is taking. After telling her captive's the information, Maya uses her phantom cat powers to access the same computer console from last episode and manages to send a message to her friends. Upon receiving the message from Maya, Kagura Total Secuirty jumps into the action to stop the phantoms cats and the mysterious cargo aboard it. However Kagura's plan to attack the ship on it's own, which naturally doesn't go to plan. They end up teaming up with Hound to fight against the phantom cats on board the Nikolai. After being treated to some action scenes, the show continues to roll on just as you think that the show has come to an end, as we see a phantom cat driving off with a nuclear missile. So it's up to Kagura again to stop the phantom cat and the missile from being launched. After stopping the phantom cat and missile from exploding, the last scene sees Maya being reunited with Taba as the other members of Kagura go off on a new case.

In conclusion Geobreeders is a light, wholesome fun show full of comedy, fan-service and action. Even though there is not much depth to the story, I hope the next disk will help explain more of the finer details of the story.
