George Lucas talks "Star Wars" TV

George Lucas recently caught up with TheForce.net and IESB.net to talk about his upcoming TV projects.  Here is what each site wrote:

TheForce.net (Follow link for full story)

“the future is in television.” That’s why he’s concentrating on an animated series and live action series, not features.

He’s very excited about the animated 3D Clone Wars TV series. He is trying to recreate the ambiance of a SW film in cartoon form – “there won’t be anything on TV like it” – it’ll be “smart ass comedy with contemporary humor.” It won’t be dealing with the Skywalker story. The emphasis is on freedom to portray anything they feel like; for instance some episodes are just about clonetroopers, another features as the main character Kit Fisto. He’s going to make 100 episodes, doesn’t have a network yet.

The live action series is still a few years away, no character decisions have been cast in stone. He did say that each show will be a different character.

He tells us about a new character we will see in the upcoming animated series that takes place during the Clone wars. Her name is Osoka (this is a phonetic spelling, after all, with Lucas and his spelling magic it will probably be Osaakua or something like that), she is a young Padawan learner, it's her first assignment and she's very young. she's a little Togruta, the same species as Shaak Ti from Episodes II and III.

We may see Boba Fett, but he will still be a little kid. So will Osoka and Boba become friends maybe? Hmmm....

KJ's Take:  God I can't wait for both of these to get on the air.  Very interesting that they caught Lucas saying that the future is in television ... I wonder why he thinks that way?

ok. can we just let star wars be? i am as done with star wars as i am with star trek. george ruined the series for me with the prequels. i didnt mind phantom, but attack was a little ridiculous and revenge made me sick.

why did any one think this guy was a great movie maker?

dawntreader, I love the prequels. Phantom Menace kind of sucked, but Attack of the Clones was so good it was like a big apology for Menace. Then Revenge of the Sith was just flat out awesome and is the second best Star Wars movie ever made, next to Empire.

These shows are gonna be lame. Star Wars sucks. And George Lucas is a whore. He's just looking for away to make more money of Star Wars. Cuz he has no talent and cant make anything else.

"He’s going to make 100 episodes, doesn’t have a network yet."

sure he does..he just hasnt aquired it yet... it's going to be called the Lucas network. :o)

kjsucks6996... nobody cares what the hell you think so shut the heck up, ok.

mckracken...I think we all know that Kjsucks has nothing of relevance to say in these news links and never will...He and his cronies are the dumbest group of people to post at this site and there comments only solidify that fact...

I will admit my feelings as to George Lucas not being a very good director but he did create a story I have enjoyed for many, many years... There is no doubt his star wars franchise is a power house and by all accounts it is a money making franchise, so all the power to him....

I think the Star Wars tv show will be great because Lucas won't be as involved in it as he was with the prequels. In the original movies, Lucas did the things that he does best and wasn't trying to control every aspect. Sounds like he's going to have a similar role in the TV show-he's said that after the first season, his role will be lesser, which I take as very good news.

Besides...the more Star Wars the better! Battlestar Galactica gets too weird lately.

I'm quite bored with the latest wave of cynicism that seems to be the latest craze in the scifi universe. I for one am looking forward to "Star Wars TV". I say bring it. It has to be better than that reality crap that I have never gotten into!

I don’t know whether to be excited about this or not. I certainly was thrilled when I walked unprepared into a Hollywood theater to see this movie called Star Wars I knew nothing about. It was exciting to see some of the ideas in the 1950s science fiction books I had read, books like Foundation and Foundation and Empire, take form on the screen. I was blow away.
But here’s my question. Where is George Lucas going to take us now? In the 1950s science fiction was just a dream and most over the age of 30 would scoff at it as fantasy. Impossible! my grandfather would say, and I would smile at my secret knowledge he was wrong. But today we know that not only are most of the Star Wars concepts possible, we already have them. Watch the NASA channel. You can get your fill of real life and death space-based drama.
What was mind-bending when Star Wars was first shown in 1977 is fait accompli today. Star Wars today is more about the culture of advanced technical societies than it is about blowing our collective minds.
This means that Lucas has a harder job to entertain us. His stories have always had a human story as its core, but more than ever it is the story itself that has to captivate us, not the technology or the gadgets. Can he still blow out mind, or are his efforts going to whither as mere space opera, an empty genre without new ideas to keep it fresh? To me, that is the real question.

Already planning 100 episodes? Bit premature, don't you think?
