George A. Romero Updates His DIARY

Legendary horror director George A Romero is currently filming DIARY OF THE DEAD and he has now given an update on it. It's been rumored that Romero is going back to his "indie" style reminiscent of his original concept NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and going away from a big budget feature film like his last LAND OF THE DEAD.

Still, everyone's been wanting an update and wondering where the heck Romero is at. He's apparently seen the enquiries and he has given an update on his official myspace page for it:

Hi, guys,

Lemme tell ya about Diary of the Dead. I love it. It's the first film since my original Night of the Living Dead that I can say is completely my own.

I've been trying to work under-the-radar, with no hype or press, but lately I've started hearing all kinds of shit about "What's goin' on with Romero?" "What's with his new film?"

Gimme a break over here! I'm up in Toronto workin' my ass off, making Diary the best it can be. Truth is, I'm having a blast. I've gone home to the kind of filmmaking that I used to do, back in the day.

Diary is a hundred percent independent, made with my partner, Peter Grunwald, and our new friends at Artfire. I haven't had this much freedom since 1968. The cast, of what film critics will probably call "unknowns" (they won't be for long) is, in my opinion, fuckin' great.

This one comes from my heart. It's not a sequel or a remake. It's a whole new beginning for the dead.

Thanks to all of you who are out there waiting and wondering. You guys, the fans, have always kept me going. Now Diary's keeping me going, night, dawn, and day.

I love this movie. I hope you will, too. I'll be back here from time to time to keep you posted. Stay tuned.

Stay scared.

George A. Romero

George you're the one film maker who gives me my one most frightening recurring nightmares since I was 12 and someone showed me "Dawn..." on their parent's VHS. You kinda took a left turn with "Land..." but I got faith in you to scare the living bejeezus and creep the motherf*cking hell out of me all over again.

It sounds like Diary will be better than Land of the Dead, though Land one was only okay. Romero's other Dead movies were good because they were independent. If you look back at most horror movies made since the the original Night of the Living Dead, the real good ones were made independently, not by the studios. The only way to really make your movie your way is to either be George Lucas or be independent.

Face facts gang.... Land was made for one reason.... studios saw the hit that the Dawn remake was for Universal and wanted their own hit, so why not grab romero (the grandaddy of Zombie horror) and make that hit.... but as with all things, this project became less about what we and Romero wanted, and more about what the studio wanted.... this being an indie filmis a godsend!

Um George Romero was already working on Land of the Dead before the Dawn remake was announced

Man mckraken, you sure are a brave soul to say somethig like this.

Especially in this place, the cry babies will eat your heart out for not thinking like them.

I guess it's good news that GAR is going back to the roots of ''indie'' movies. Land of the dead was ok in my book, really, really gross and some cool scenes but, it was ok (wasn't too big on the idea of a ''smart'' zombie).

in any case, I can't wait to see this new zombie movie, love those zombies.

Really, more zombie movies? He does the same movie but with different settings doesn't he? What do I know. Enjoy Diary.
