While talking to Ian Spelling's Inside Trek & Sci Fi syndicated column, Takei explained why he came on board the Sci Fi cable channel's original TV series, THE CHRONICLE, for an episode titled, "Here There Be Dragons," saying, "It sounded like fun. There's a rumor that a dragon lives in the sewers of Chinatown, New York City, and I play Mr. Shen, the father of a girl (Youki Kudoh) who's supposedly having a relationship with the dragon.
"The three main characters [Chad Willett as Tucker Gates, Rena Sofer as Grace Hall and Reno Wilson as photographer Wes Freewald] come to Chinatown, and I find all the media attention not only intrusive but invasive on our lives. And, of course, it turns out that there is a... let's say a thing... living in the sewers, by whom my daughter becomes pregnant."
Regarding working on the program, Takei says, "I enjoyed the other actors and shooting in San Diego. The only downside to the experience was that there were a lot of night shots, and I just don't fare well working into the wee hours of the evening."
Takei's guest stint can be seen when the episode premieres on the Sci Fi cable channel on July 21.
