Germany's Stallion Film will take the Japanese manga WICKED CITY by Hideyuki Kikuchi and turn it into a live-action film. Mark Dippe will direct and co-produce the $50 million, Engish-language project.

The science-fiction story centers on beasts from a parallel dimension and a secret resistance organization trying to prevent the apocalypse. Mark Dippe and Johnny Hartmann are writing the script.

Kikuchi's manga was adapted as anime, YOJU TOSHI, by Yoshiaki Kawajiri in 1987.

Ah man!! WHY!!!?? Dippestick ruined the living crap out of Spawn why would they give this hack a classic anime to adapt to live action?? Might as well give Uwe Boll producer credits.

And the trend of making something new out of something old continues. There is no intelligence left in Hollywood, which is a shame since they USED to make good movies. And they wonder why theater revenues are so low? High ticket prices combined with azzcrap movies is a poor combination. :P

Wicked City was a cool anime for it's time and one of my 1st forays into anime, but it hasn't aged very well. Visually it is really cool, but the story has too much juvenile comedy which lowers the overall cool aspect of the anime film. I would like to see this done right and they have the techno to do it today!

First off, I thought Spawn was a decent movie. I have no idea if the sequel will ever come out. Secondly, there already is a live action movie adapted from this animé. It's called, strangely enough, "Wicked City." I hope the script writers are aware of this.

I remember this as "SUPERNATURAL BEASTIE CITY". I just hope it doesn't turn out like "FIST OF THE NORTH STAR".

Maybe Dippe approached them with the idea, manjisan.

Spider's right, the old (original) "live action" Wicked City bears little resemblance to the anime of the same name, so I've heard (I havent rented it) cant wait to see how they translate the tarantula woman scene in the beginning of Wicked City, that one make me cross my legs!

hey is the anime "Demon City" an "official" sequel or not? It doesnt feature any characters from Wicked City, but I was told by a comic shop store owner that it was the sequel? I think he was mis-informed.

thats "Demon City: Shinjuku" for those that care.

Why? Wicked city sucked, why make a live action movie out of it?
