Get ready for Horrorfest on March 27th!

By: Karl Schneider
Date: Tuesday, March 20, 2007

Horrorfest, the weekend of horror that brought films which were too graphic or disturbing for general audiences to theaters, is set to land on DVD shelves March 27.

All but one of the Horrorfest DVDs come out on March 27th and there is also a DVD set available (The DVDs will be more available separately than as the DVD set).

The Horrorfest trailer:

The films:

Dark Ride: Nearly a decade after two young girls are brutally murdered, the monstrous killer, Jonah, escapes from a mental institution and returns to his familiar killing ground, the theme park attraction “Dark Ride.” His unfortunate victims this time are a group of college kids on a road trip that inevitably leads them to the Dark Ride where their night of youthful fun becomes a nightmare.  The killer, who is mimicking the sets within the attraction, makes sure this is a “ride” audiences will never forget.

The Hamiltons: The Hamiltons seem to be the picture-perfect American family. They are hardworking community members; giving to their local charities, attending town hall meetings and always respectful of their neighbors... except for the fact that they usually end up killing them.

The Gravedancers: Winner of rave reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival. A group of friends' lives are invaded by a trio of hostile ghosts after they engage in a drunken bout of gravedancing during a wake for an old chum.

Reincarnation: Thirty-five years after the slaughter, a film director returns to the scene of a mass murder to recreate the gruesome killings on film.   As he and his crew step foot into the now abandoned hotel, the cast members begin to see creepy visions and nightmares.  When shooting commences the cast members begin to suffer very familiar fates - the exact fate they are to act out in the film!

Unrest: Alison Blanchard begins her journey to become a physician in her Gross Anatomy class, where she must confront rows of cadavers and her own fear of mortality. When the sheets are drawn back revealing her cadaver, Alison senses a presence in the lab. Her jaded professor chalks it up to first year "jitters" but her worries increase when a friend is found dead in the basement. Alison must find out the truth behind her cadaver before its angered spirit can wreak further vengeance on those who dared to disturb the body.

Penny Dreadful: Penny, a young woman traumatized by a childhood auto accident that killed her parents, accompanies her therapist, on a road trip back to the scene of the accident as part of her therapy to overcome her fear of cars. But, when the two women accidentally cross paths with a dark and mysterious hitchhiker on a lonely stretch of mountain highway an attempt at healing suddenly takes a terrifying detour into a horrific life and death struggle with a ruthless, deranged killer bent on preying upon Penny’s worst fears.

Wicked Little Things: Recently widowed Karen Tunny and her two daughters, Sarah and Emma, move to a remote mountain home which Karen has inherited from the family of her late husband. However, she is unaware that the home is situated near an old mine, the site of an early 20th century tragedy in which many children were buried alive...

The 8th film will be coming to theaters!

I thought Horror Festr was great fun. I got to see two of them (I have reviews for both under my profile; Gravedancers & Unrest). Now I'll be able to see the rest. Sweet!

I only got to see one, Dark Ride, and it suuuuuuccccccked!!!

It was the ultimate "Let's just make a horror film" movie. There's nothing original about it. Even if it was bad, there's be things to say about it. But they tell artists the one thing you can't do to the audience is bore them. This one did.

So don't be fooled by the "too disturbing for general audiences". Perhaps the other ones are better, but there's other reasons Dark Ride didn't make it into mainstream theaters

You say "unfortunate victim", I say "public service".
