Smart is partnered instead with the lovely-but-lethal veteran Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway). Given little field experience and even less time, Smart—armed with nothing but a few spy-tech gadgets and his unbridled enthusiasm—must thwart the doomsday plans of KAOS head Siegfried (Terance Stamp).

Scoop Feedback:

July 31, 2003... Former SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE cast member Will Ferrell is forging ahead on his burgeoning film career. After scoring a modest hit with OLD SCHOOL and completing filming on ELF, Farrell has now attached himself to star in a possible big screen version of the classic TV comedy series GET SMART. Farrell would play the role of secret agent Maxwell Smart, originally played by Don Adams on the TV show.

Now that Farrell has attached his name to the Warner Bros.-based project, producer Andrew Lazar is shopping the GET SMART movie around town and to prospective screenwriters. [Variety.]

August 3, 2004... After appearing as one of the guys in ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY, actor Steve Carell has now closed a deal that will see him play the lead role in a GET SMART feature film. Carell will take over the role of CONTROL Agent Maxwell Smart (also known as Agent 86), a role first made famous when Don Adams played the bumbling secret agent character on the television series for five seasons. The film is in development at Warner Bros.

Created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, the GET SMART TV series followed the zany exploits of Agent Smart and his much more intelligent female partner Agent 99 (played by Barbara Feldon) as they took on the diabolical organization known as KAOS. The show was a comedic take on the character of James Bond and the notion of Cold War spies. Adams reprised his character in a 1979 movie based on the series titled THE NUDE BOMB, which in fact bombed at theaters.

Screenwriter Steve Koren will pen the script, tailoring it to fit Carell's comedic sensabilities. The actor is currently filming his first leading role in New Line Cinema's FURRY VENGEANCE.

December 3, 2005... Warner Bros. Pictures has signed Peter Segal to direct the big-screen version of GET SMART. [Hollywood Reporter.]
