Don Adams, who was best known for his role as agent Maxwell Smart on the 60s comedy spy series, GET SMART, passed away this past Sunday at age 82.
The show created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, from an idea by producer Dan Melnick, centered on inept & clumsy Agent 86 of the super-secret federal agency CONTROL, who combated the evil agents of KAOS. The gadgets on the show, which spoofed the ones from James Bond movies, were well liked by fans, especially Smart's shoe phone.
Actress Barbara Feldon, who played brainy Agent 99, said of her co-star, "He had this prodigious energy, so as an actor working with him it was like being plugged into an electric current. He would start and a scene would just take off and you were there for the ride. It was great fun acting with him."
The show ran for five seasons -- four on NBC and one on CBS. GET SMART won two Emmys for best comedy series and Adams won three Emmys as comedy actor.
Adams also voiced the cartoon character Inspector Gadget.
