Getter Robo Vol. #2

The Review!
Yes! More episodes of Go Nagai's latest work. He's sick, he's cynical, but you gotta love him.

Audio: Sounds great on both tracks. No distortion or any dropouts. ADV is still doing a great job.

Video: Since the mecha designs aren't really all that detailed, the colors look amazing. And ADV did justice to make all the fast paced action look fast. Impressive.

Packaging: It's a little hard to actually look at and determine which volume it is. They don't even list the episodes. At any rate, it's an ok cover.

Menus: Pretty fast with some good music. Can't really complain.

Extras: First, we get the textless opening and closings which will probably be a mandatory extra in all the volumes. Then, there's interviews with four of the dub voice actors on what they think of Getter. And finally, production sketches of characters and mecha.

Content: Yes yes yes! If you want action, violence and a bunch of intrigue, then Getter is for you. Another volume to put into your When-Good-Anime-Goes-Wild pile.

When the Shin Dragon awakens, all hell breaks lose. After some furious combat, Kei's dad is injured by one of the Shin Dragon's minions. While he gets treated, the Getter team meet a group of nasty people who want Getter out of commission, but they soon learn just how capable the Getter is to work with.

If the Shin Dragon wasn't enough, Dr. Saotome makes his grand entrance. And he starts it off by revealing the truth that Kei is his daughter. Kei, now furious, tries to kill Saotome, but ends up being sucked into the Shin Dragon along with Go. While the rest of the mecha fight off against the Shin Dragon, Kei is revealed to the truth about her past. Kei and Go's own energy fuel the Shin Dragon, but Kei and Go manage to escape. When they do, it's time for Getter to save the day and for Kei to explain why she's now naked.

Overall, if you want fast and furious action with lots of violence, Getter Robo is by far one of the best titles you can find out there. Highly recommended.
